...but the good news is my wife is pregnant! We may try next year or hold off until the new baby is older and take both kids.

We are very excited to be expecting but a little bummed that we aren't going on our first cruise just yet. Dang Zika virus!!!

Congratulations!

I'm sure this will be controversial, but I'm pregnant (slipping in just under the cutoff date, in fact) and going on the 7 day western in the beginning of April. In all of the (many, many) cruises I've taken, I have never been bitten by a mosquito. I do plan to stay onboard at Cozumel, but there have been no reports of infection at Grand Cayman (yet. They're being aggressive about keeping it out, but I'm watching and will stay onboard there, too, if there's an outbreak) or Castaway Cay.

Having been on a cruise when our son was a toddler, I am not looking forward to repeating that, so I'll get my peace in while I can.

Honestly, I am more likely to die in the car ride down there. Plus, by the time I deliver we will be well and truly swarmed here in the US, anyway.

We were on the Western Carribean itinerary in February and saw no mosquitoes at all. We did the Tulum tour at Cozumel and walked all around Castaway Cay; usually I am a mosquito magnet, and I did not get bitten once. I think the authorities probably spray the heck out of all tourist areas, but that said, if I were pregnant, I might think twice. Luckily, I am too old to worry about it .

Thanks everyone! I guess the biggest concern is the first trimester for this and she goes into the second trimester at the end of May. She is paranoid so it wouldn't make for a fun cruise if we were all lathered in bug spray and her thinking she has to just stay on the ship. Baby health comes first! DCL and Southwest were very helpful and offered a full refund with a doctors note.

Congrats. I don't think the chemicals in bug spray are all that healthy either so I think you definitely made the right choice.

Congrats! As someone who was nauseous through my entire pregnancy, there is no way I would have wanted to step foot on a boat :)

I've been nauseous the entire time with this one, too! Been through all kinds of anti-nausea stuff with no effect until I was put on diclegis last week. It's amazing. I'm actually kind of excited because I usually get nauseous on the ship at least one full day and night and tried pills, patches, and homeopathic remedies to no avail, but if this is already suppressing my nausea, I should be good to go!

...I hope.

Congrats on the baby! That is so cool. We had a family cruise planned for April 3rd. Our adult son, daughter, son in law and in laws were all going (the in laws first cruise ever). One month ago we found out our daughter is pregnant (our first grand child) What a great blessing!! But, the bad news is no cruise allowed - her doctor said it's not worth the risk. Disney was great and allowed cancellation with full refund (we did not have any cancellation insurance). Two weeks later my son switches jobs and has to cancel the cruise as well. Now it's us and the in laws. They are so disappointed they only get us and no grandkids!!!

My daughter now wants us to book a "first birthday" cruise for October 2017!!!!

For pregnant moms planning on staying on the ship while in port, please remember no contact with sperm from a man that has been to Zika area for the entire pregnancy. All US cases came from the men not the mosquito. Please talk to your OB.

If you've got it under control already, you should be good to go! I remember vividly running through the house to the only bathroom and screaming to DH "Get out, get out, get out!!!!". Might be why I have one child....

Congratulations!!!
I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruise, but hopefully you can book one in the future and have something to look forward to when the little one arrives.
