H1N1 Mist: Have you or your children gotten it?

Just wanted your experiences with it. My kids get the seasonal flu mist and have never had any trouble. The mist and shot are being offered in my town this week, with many more doses of the mist, so I would have better luck getting them the mist. Any trouble with it? Also, I thought I read that if you got the seasonal mist, you'd have to get the H1N1 shot-looked at the CDC's site, but I dodn't find anything about that. Thanks!

No, you can get both mists, they just have to be separated by 28 days.

My DDs got seasonal FluMist on Oct 7th, and will be getting the H1N1 FluMist in November. (yes, their ped has it! )

There's no different side effects from H1N1 mist than seasonal mist. They will actually be combined next year. They are made in exactly the same way; it's just the seasonal flu has the three flu strains they think will be most prevalent this winter, while the H1N1 has, obviously, just the H1N1 strain. If they'd known sooner, they would have replaced one of the three strains in the seasonal vaccine with the H1N1, but of course, they didn't know in time.

So yes, if you're a candidate for the FluMist, go on and get it, as many people in the high risk catagories require the shot.

My kids got the seasonal flu mist on 10/1 and they will be getting the H1N1 mist on Thursday (exactly 28 days later). My only concern is with my son who did not handle the mist application well, so he might in fact be getting the shot this time. But other than a young child who can't properly sniff in when told, I see no reason to avoid the mist.

You can also combine mist and shot for the 2 shots (if you have a child under 10yo). So if you get the mist the 1st time, then go back 30 days later and they only have the shot, that's fine.

I think my kids are going to get it.

All 4 had the regular flu shot and not the mist.

I just got a letter home from school Saturday that the school system is providing the shots to all of the school kids for no charge. Now I just have to see if my dr is getting it in for my 4yo who is in a private pre-school.

My 8 year old got the 2 H1N1 shots in a vaccine trial. No side effects at all.
My 11 year old just got the FluMist H1N1 on Saturday. No side effects so far.

The biggest concerns are the 28 days between the two kinds of FluMist and if you are pregnant or have asthma you shouldn't get the FluMist.

That is so weird. They won't give to adults here unless they are health care works or are care givers to children under 6 months. Other wise it is only for the 2-34 year olds.

Was it lab confirmed?

If not, then yes definitely you should.

There was a special on the National Geographic channel about the H1N1 and they said that not everyone who got the sick from virus developed antibodies for it.

I've not read where it will hurt to get the shot after being sick. Only during a sickness is not recommended. But I would google it if I were you to make sure.

If they got the SHOT it doesn't matter.

The 28 day separation is only for two MISTS. You can even get both seasonal flu and H1N1 flu vaccines on the same day if they are both shots, or if you get one mist and one shot. Only the two mists cannot be given closer than 4 weeks apart. (actually, if you're just a few days shy of 4 weeks, for example 25 days instead of 28, it's not such a big deal, but don't push it to 21 days).

Kids under 10 will need two doses of H1N1 vaccine regardless of whether you choose mist or shot. These two doses also need to be 28 days apart, shot or mist. (mix and match at will, if the patient is a candidate for mist)

My kids both got the seasonal Flu Mist at my son's well visit on 10/6.
I got an email yesterday that the ped's office now has 30% of their H1N1 vaccines, but they are all Flu Mist, so since kids who have medical issues need the shot, it was first come(or first emailed back as the case may be) first served to anyone who wanted it.
I emailed and asked that they get it and since we have to wait the 4 weeks, can they just get it at my daughter's 11/9 well check. They are holding the vaccines for us until then, thankfully.

my eldest got both shots today (seasonal and h1n1). the twins got the first h1n1 mist, will go back in a month to get the 2nd h1n1 doses for all 3, then a month later for the seasonal for the twins. our peds office is recommending it in that order. of course, they are also short on seasonal right now, which probably helps lean that way even if they weren't already.

DH and I fall out of the risk category by just a hair I'm pushing (hard) college age DS and DD to get theirs though...any school setting seems to be a breeding ground of this particular strain. Our local health network has the nasal but no injection vaccine yet.

Dont like live flu virus vaccines....that's the nurse in me for 28 years......we wont be getting the H1N1 dead virus vaccine either....

We have a 86 y.o Roommate and his Doc (who takes care of geriatric patients) is not even ordering it. Said he is not happy with the amount of research done on it. Called around to some MD friends and most are passing. Some are not.

I was in nursing school when the first strain of swine flu and Vaccine came around......

Do your research and you be your best judge. Dont let the media and hype scare you. We by the way we do get the annual flu show and we have all gotten that already. I have Epilepsy, DH Hep C, son Asthma, one son healthy, no problems.

Thanks for the input. The kids got the mist on Thursday (dd will need another dose in a month) and have had no ill effects! It was, in all, 3 hours at the flu shot clinic, though. Hopefully by next month, when dd needs her next does, the dr.'s office will have it.
I know people are hesitant about the mists, but my kids have gotten them the last few years and never had trouble. My dr. said they were perfectly safe and I trust his opinion. Also, I have a friend whose dh is a dr. and they were at the clinic, too!

I received the mist exactly 9 hours ago. Thus far, I have had no symptoms. I was told that this was the first shipment and that pregnant women and children under 2 could only receive the shot, not the mist; therefore I was recommended to receive the mist, in order to save the shots for those who have no choice between the two.
