gymnastics.......does your gym bring in a photographer?

so last week we get a notice that this week they are having a photographer come to take individual and group photos of the kids.
we will get the pics by the end of the month.
this same photographer did pics last year, but it was at the beginning of the year......and honestly the quality was so so. let's just say i wouldn't rush back to this photographer
and it was expensive.

I am annoyed with this, they run everything by us before doing it such as buying new leotards, etc to get a vote, but there was nothing about this.
I wouldn't want to say anything about the quality issue, because the photographer is one of the moms.

so the forms give the option to opt out of the individual and/or group photo,
so i guess I am annoyed because i feel like i 'have" to do this, a go along with the group thing.

so does your gym do this?

our gym doesn't do this, if we want pictures it's up to us to get them, which I prefer. My daughters ballet studio did however bring someone in and this chick wasn't that good and the backgrounds she used were super cheesy. I decided NOT to get my daughters pictures through her and got them done elsewhere. I just couldn't see getting pictures I wouldn't like.

Ours does too....but they turned out great. I would take my dd so she could be in the group pictures, but if I didn't think they would turn out good I wouldn't buy them. I get dd's picture made several times throughout the year then they had school pictures in the fall and spring and dance pics in the spring and gymnastics pics in the fall. I just don't allow myself to feel obligated to purchase them. (However I'm a picture sucker and usually do)

Our gym does do this but the do have a group photo for like $5. The rest of the packages can get kind of pricey. Everyone is the class (or team) is in the group photo whether they pay or not at our gym.

If you don't like the quality of the photos maybe you can approach the owner and ask if they have looked at other photographers? Just that you were not pleased with your pictures and the price and that you know this is sensitive because the photographer is another parent but ....

At least then you will have broached the subject whether or not it goes anywhere. Good luck!

I hate that "a mom with a camera" is considered a photographer when she has proven her lack of abilities. they should just say, "linda's mom is going to try again to take some pictures", "and then try to sell them to you".

I volunteer for the local theater. After a few months of rehearsals, and two or three weekends of shows I might have 1000 photos. They are all available for free from my site, even the full size files. But for convenience anyone can also buy prints at my site, , from which I make a few cents each...

no the photographer actually has a photography business she runs out of her home, if it was the other case of just mom taking pics, no way would I pay , i can take nice pics my self LOL

maybe we will just do the group photo. they do this during practice, so all the girls see everyone going over to where she is set up, so it will be clear who does it and who doesn't.

We are lucky at our gym that one of the mom's of two team girls is a Professional Photographer. Our team pictures that we get from her are great. She also takes pictures of the kids at the meets. She has a website that the pictures are posted to and this year we could get the rights to the pictures to do what we wish with them.

She does such a great job that I want to go to her for family pictures this fall.
