Gym has been opened a year now. During the first year I paid an introductory rate of $25/month. Owner is very verbal in letting us know she is not making money, in fact loosing it.
This past month I paid $59 for everything - I do 5 classes per week (yoga, pilates, strength, cardio, kickboxing) and use the treadmill most wkday mornings.
Last night she told us she is loosing money on the instructors. So now she's letting the instructors use the classroom but we pay them directly. It will be about $4 per class so for me thats $20/wk ($80 4wk month) to do everything Ive been doing.
On top of that owner will be charging $39 per month for use of treadmill, bike, eliptical, 8 weight machines and free weights.
So for me $119 per month!

Its a good group of ppl (unless we all get up and leave). Thinking of stopping all classes, paying the $39/month and just doing the treadmill and weights.

I don't know where you are, but to give you an idea that's about what I pay for my family of 4 to have a gym membership. All the group classes are included as are the kids classes and childcare for that price. I think you might want to look around, you'll probably find something much more affordable. Maybe the others that you enjoy class with will also decide to move since the prices are getting so steep.

Around here, $120 per month, including 5 classes per week, at a high-quality gym, is a STEAL.

Yes, that's just for one person.

My gym charges $10/month, no commitment, no contract. I did have to put $20 down at the start.

That doesn't include classes, but they have 40 treadmills, 30 ellipticals, 10 "arc" trainers, and probably 15 bikes. They also have many weight machines, free weights, and an express circuit area, as well as showers, lockers, etc.

My old gym charged $19/month (it was a 2 yr contract, though) and that included unlimited classes at all 5 gyms in the area, and unlimited machines/weights, and 10 personal trainer sessions a year. The classes included kickboxing, pilates, yoga, step, and some water aerobics. They also had pools at 2 of the gyms and spas at all of them. Unfortunately when I changed jobs, the locations were bad and I had to let that membership lapse.

I would say look around and see what else is out there. $120/month seems really high to me.

I'd look around for another gym-- newer YMCA's are great, also 24 hour fitness centers. If you join a national chain, the people you are dealing directly with aren't concerned about money, but about fitness.
