GV @ OKW Availability

Folks,
I'm an owner @ SSR and we're looking forward to going home in January '05 -- but I have found myself planning far ahead for DVC trips and was thinking of hosting friends @ DVC in March '06. A GV @ OKW would be perfect (size and points). What are the chances of being able to get a GV @ OKW for March 12-17, '06 at the 7 month window -- am I just dreaming?

Chances not to good for that time of year at 7 month out. Does SSR have GV. One should join where they want to stay is the advice always given on these boards. GV are difficult to get at the 11 month window during that time period. I would look into a two bedroom and a studio rental at your home resort.

I agree chances are slim to none.

You might consider looking for an OKW owner who would like to "trade reservations or points" with you. That way you could take advantage of the 11 month booking window at OKW and the OKW owner would have the 11 mont window at your home resort.

Another option is to rent OKW points - you could rent out your home resort points to cover the cost.

Spring break months (March and April) are going to be tough for GVs. I agree that trading 11 month ressies with an OKW owner might be the easiest way to do it. January, February and September would be a different story. Even June and August might be easier than March.

At OKW, you can get a 1B AND a 2B for about the same "cost" as a Grand Villa. The accommodations won't be as luxurious, but it is a more reasonable alternative for that time of year.

I agree with what's been said about the odds of getting a GV. Another possibility would be to find an OKW owner and rent the points and have them make the reservation for you at the 11 month date. Good Luck...

Many thanks for the wise advice. I had a feeling that GVs would be a tough one to get. We are ecstatic to be members at SSR (we did buy where we wanted to stay) and while SSR does have GVs, it was my thought to extend points with an OKW-GV as much as possible for a one shot deal.
The "Trade points/ressies with an OKW member" is a grand idea. I'll run that one up the flagpole and see if anyone might salute when the time rolls around.
Might I be able to transfer my own points to an OKW member and have them make the ressie on my behalf? Can one borrow points to transfer?
