I'm interested in trying the Gumbo (appetizer) at Cafe Orleans. Anyone had it? Is it good and spicy? Also, can I get it to go?

I love their gumbo and I would say it is medium spicey, not overwhelming. Never tried to go.

Spiciness is kind of up to an individual's taste. I've had different degrees of spicy food, and this gumbo for me is mild. It is exceedingly yummy :goodvibes, and I always order that and the pommes frites.

Go where? It is simply a bread bowl with gumbo inside so you can walk around with it or take it somewhere but the reality is it best hot and freshly put in the bread... eat it right there in NOS within 5-10 minutes! Good DL food choice.

The gumbo is quite delicious. :thumbsup2 Not too spicy, but that's just me. I haven't tried to get it "to go," but I've been many people walking around with one, so I'm sure it's ok. ;)

Yeah! DH would probably rather have the Clam Chowder over the gumbo so I hoped we could both be happy with a yummy treat during F! or Fireworks.

Does anyone know how the gumbo at CO compares to the gumbos at Royal Street Veranda? I've only had the vegetarian gumbo (yum yum yum...but hubby always adds hot sauce to it once I'm done wiht the bowl we share), but I know they have the steak gumbo too. Stopping in there might be easier (b/c I think they have clam chowder too) for the OP rather than getting stuff to go from CO.

I do have to say to be CAREFUL if you're going ot walk over to the fireworks with that bowl. Lots of people in bumping distance... Might be better to eat up the soupy part, then enjoy the soupy bread while at the fireworks. :)

There's NO bread bowl with the gumbo at CO, it comes in a regular bowl so I don't think you can do it to go. I love that gumbo, it's the same stuff you get at the BB and it's super yummy!! That's what I had when DBF and I did our last couples trip, he did the MC and I had the gumbo and a salad. Yummy!!!!!! :)

Good point about the crowds. The one at CO is chicken, sausage and ham, not steak.

I don't care about the bread bowl. Is there outside dining at CO? If so, him and the kids can get what they want elsewhere and join me and my mom.

Almost all of the tables at CO are outside, there are a few inside but not many. Less than 10 I would guess. It's better to sit outside anyway, it's loud inside, very loud. I didn't think you cared about the bread bowl but lots of people were mentioning it so I thought I'd let you know it came in a "regular" bowl. As for being joined by others in your family make sure you make a PS for your whole party group because they seat you according to your group size. So if you've got 2 eating there but 5 sitting there you will need a table for 5, it's not like French Market or RiverBelle Terrace where you can just pick your tables, these are assigned tables.

Good to know. Thanks!
