My son is 9 years old and saw a commercial for this.....so my question is: is this an appropriate game for him? what is the level of difficulty.....will he get frustrated?
Can you just play the guitar while it is hooked up to the PS2 or do you have to play the game?

There are easy, medium, hard & expert modes in GH. I think a 9yo would do OK with it.

If you really want to laugh, I bought it for my DH. I think he's played it once...I, however, am addicted to it. I'm 38 years old. Hoping he gets me GH2 for Xmas! :rotfl2:

We're getting a 360 because of Guitar Hero, my dad is addicted although he still doesn't know how to "strum" the guitar.

My DS (13) has asked for that too. I'm looking for reviews on it right now. Any more DISer's with real experience playing it?

Bumping :bounce:

My 15 y.o. is also asking for this game. I know nothing about it except what I've read here.

Hopefully this will help some of you... we have GH1 and LOVE it. We got it for our DD last Christmas when she was 7. She plays with it a lot, actually we all do. It is very fun, it can be easy or extremely difficult so it isn't something that you will outgrow- I can't imagine ever getting good enough to play the hard levels. I would check out Best Buy's store... they usually have a demo to try as well as Wal-Mart. At Best Buy they had the GH2 set up with 2 guitars which is one of the reasons that the 2nd game is going to be so much better than the first one. On the GH2, you can play with 2 people at a time- one can play "easy" level and one can play a harder level. There is also a practice level, but we haven't tried that yet. My DD is getting the GH2 from her Grandfater for Christmas and no one can wait. There are all sorts of different songs so everyone will be able to find a favorite and I think that they are all appropriate. On the GH1 I did notice one swear word (sh--) on a bonus song I think it was, but my DD didn't even notice it. If you go ahead and get additional wireless guitars, make sure that you check the reviews well... some do not work with GH1 and some have very bad reviews. If there is a good one out there, I would recommend getting a wireless guitar because it is easy to bounce around while playing and possibly pulling the PS2 out of wherever it is sitting. If anyone has any other questions, I would be happy to answer them. Our whole family would say Buy One!!!

As far as I know... they don't make a GH that works with a 360... just PS2 so you might want to double check that.

We were just playing it over the weekend; it was fun! I'm getting it for my husband for his birthday next month. The adults had a lot of fun with it, but it was a little hard for our kids (around age 5 though). Your 9yo would probably like it though.

I just bought two of these on Friday at Kohl's. One for my son and one for my nephew. They both have been dying to get one. They were on sale for something like $59.99, and then I had the extra 15% off coupon so it was much cheaper than Best Buy. :thumbsup2

One of my coworkers has an obession with this game and he is almost 22 years old. I think it seems like a great game for anyone over 7-8 years old. Like a previous poster said, you can play on easy or very difficult levels. The harder levels seem pretty hard. I don't think I'm coordinated enough for a game like that :rotfl:

My son loves this game. I love that he is getting into classic rock music. :)

Guitar Hero II 360 wired for 2007

RedOctane confirms first non-PS2 iteration of popular rhythm game series won't arrive until the new year, will include a tethered controller.

It looks like Xbox 360 gamers won't be rocking around the Christmas tree this year.
A RedOctane representative told GameSpot that the recently announced Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 will be released sometime in 2007, significantly trailing the PlayStation 2 version of the game, scheduled to hit retail this November.

My son(plays a some guitar), was bummed when he found out that the 360 version would not be WIRELESS. But after thinking about it a bit, he realized that most guitars are wired...

He has the PS2 but would rather wait for the 360 version since it sounds like you will be able to download SONGS and not be stuck to the ones included on the disk forever.

My 10 year old brother is getting it for Christmas - it is going to be such a breath of fresh air to hear classic rock coming from his room instead of the rap/hiphop music that are on the sports games he plays.

My sister and I have both played it before and we can't wait to get it... Christmas day is going to be a brawl in my house :thumbsup2

My boys got that last Christmas, they love it! We did just happen to be at best buy a few times to try it out before Santa got it for them, Santa like to be sure the toys he gets them are what they really want ;)

I think we'll get the second one this year, then they can play together.

We LOVE Guitar Hero! My DS7 plays it all the time- he's had it about a year. He can do all of the easy level and is working his way up.

***If you really want to have fun with it, pull it out at your next party and watch the adults go nuts!!! Hilarious!!! :rotfl:

I bought GH1 for my DS15 last year for Christmas. He hasn't stopped playing it yet. He'll have GH2 under the tree this year, but has already been playing the game cuz he borrowed it from a neighbor.

One question the OP asked was if he could play guitar without playing the game. The guitar that comes with the game isn't an actual guitar. It's a smaller version of an electric guitar, but there are no strings...just buttons that coincide with the colors for the notes. So, no.

I haven't heard anyone yet that hasn't liked theirs.

My brother who is 23 is obsessed with this game.

Both my kids love guitar hero. When they have friends over, they all love to play it. My kids are 21 and 17. Both have asked for guitar hero 2 for Christmas. With the different levels, I think a young boy or girl could play it and enjoy it very easily. I am happy my kids are playing something that is not all explosions or shooting!
