I had never heard of this, so I had to google it I completely missed this was a thing, but I am rarely in DLP on Tuesdays.
There is a website which listed all the characters that participated, and the last entry was for June 2018. So my guess it was a thing for the 25th anniversary year.

It's definitely still a thing as I see it reported on twitter each week by ED92. Last week was Tiana, Naveen and Louis!
