I understand that the existing system had to change, as disabled people were being hired to allow others preferential treatment. Are any of the organizations that helped foster these programs (Make A Wish, etc) getting any help from Disney providing for their members and families that are truly entitled? If so, is there a protocol to follow? As a Make A Wish family, we are unsure what to do about our next trip down, to help DS be as comfortable as possible. Any help, including any program or policy that is already in effect, would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Are you going on a MAW trip? If so, MAW will provide you with a "Genie pass" that is specific for those on their MAW (and other similar programs) trip.

If not, yes, there is still a system (now called the DAS). A lot of good information in this thread (first post - other posts are discussion and mainly about the system when it was first started, which isn't totally the same now) - http://disboards.com/threads/wdw-di...15-digital-das-on-tickets-magicbands.3178976/

you will need to go to GR and tell to them about what kinds of things your son at disney

To clarify a couple of things.

As SirDuff mentioned, the Genie pass is for children who are on their Make a Wish trip. It is not for people who have been on a trip and are coming back for another trip.
Not all Wish granting organizations are able to get the Genie pass. MAW is one that has a relationship with Disney. There are many great wish granting organizations that also have the same type of relationship and also get the genie pass, but not every organization does. So, it's important to check if your organization I'd included and not just assume it is.

Also, disabled guests acting as tour guides was one reason Disney changed, but the much bigger reason was that the program could not continue the way it was and still have Fastpass functioning. There were too many guests being put directly into the Fastpass line and it was impacting waits for everyone. The second post in the thread SirDuff posted a link to talks about that.

The biggest change since your last trip is Fastpass Plus. Instead of running around hoping to get Fastpasses, you can schedule 3 ahead of time. Once those have been used, you can schedule another, one at a time. Many people who previously used GAC have found that works very well for them.

Thanks Sue. In my head (but clearly not my fingers), I meant "SOME other similar programs", thanks for pointing it out.
