My DS will be a sophomore in high school next year. He decided recently that he would like to try out for the school swimming team. He is a good swimmer, but has never done any competitive swimming in his life and he's almost 16! I was afraid that they wouldn't want to mess with him when they have kids who have been swimming in meets since elementary school.

Anyway, he went to try out at one of their practices and the whole team watched him. I was a nervous wreck, but he did great. They said there were a few things he needed to learn, but they'll work with him this spring/summer so he'll be ready in the fall. He made the team! He's so proud of himself, and I'm proud too! He starts practicing with them next Monday. Guess I'm swim meet bound. ;)

:bounce:

Congratulations to both of you!

That's great and I'm sure you'll enjoy the meets.

Good for him! You can be proud that he was brave enough to try out - and making the team is even better. :D

Congratulations! Get out the sunscreen..its gonna be a warm summer ;) I'm always glad when a kid finds something they really like and goes for it. :D

tell your DS congratulations!!!

Congratulations to him...that's great! :D

Tell your son I said Congratulations!! That is great news!:bounce:

Congrats to him! Get some good books. The meets can be brutal. I am a former pool rat, competitive swimmer, lifeguard and coach. He must have very good basics, since he only has to learn a few things, that is great. And, if he is a good swimmer, a lot of the stuff he has to learn will be instinct, someone just has to point it out to him!!!!

My best piece of advice, is once he starts in with the heavy duty practicing, if he likes them, have him eat a banana every day. At the beginning of the season, or new swimmers, you can get those HORRIBLE BRUTAL calf cramps. The potassium in bananas will help that!

Congrats to him again, that is really cool.

Congratulations. One of DD is on the swim team at our school. Have fun.

How great! Congratulations to your son. Get ready to have no voice on Monday mornings. My son used to swim competitively and I always had laryngitis on Mondays. It comes for yelling and screaming for your team. Never mind that they can't hear you, you still yell and scream for your team :)

That is great! It took courage to try out.
