Hello all you lovely Dis people!

Opening date for the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride supposedly is May 27th. I'm visiting Disneyland on the 19th - 23rd of May! I'm hoping I'll get lucky and the ride might be doing some soft openings/technical rehearsals.

My question is, has anyone on the boards ever attended a soft opening? What happens usually? Is there anything I can look out for while I'm there?

Thanks in advance. :)

First of all, soft openings are never announced. They just start happening, and then someone posts it on social media and people find out. Just keep checking here and other Disney fanpages on FB for announcements. When Hyperspace Mt was supposed to open the day after our APs expired, I just kept looking. And while we were shopping at DCA, I saw that HSM was open on a Saturday. So we dropped everything and got in line and got to ride it. That's how it works. It's about being lucky with timing more than anything else.

When the soft openings have been public, the CMs open the line for a short period of time with little fanfare. If you see that it's open, go immediately, the line may only be open for a few minutes. It's pretty unlikely they'd do a soft opening 4 days early. The rides that have had it, it's been more like 1 or 2. And there have been some recently that haven't. Like the re-themed Matterhorn was a media preview only.

Just keep checking, I don't think it'll be that early though if they do have a soft opening.. they may have an AP preview though, but I still don't think it'll be 4 days before opening.

Yup this is how soft openings work if they have them. But I have feeling that they might do something different this time around. I'm guessing they might have an AP event or some type of paid event the day before the actual opening, like they did for Electric Parade and for the last night of TOT. Just guessing, but good luck getting the regular soft opening :shamrock:.

Have fun,
Kriss :tink:

Thank you for all the responses. I tried to be clear in my question that I never expected to be guaranteed a ride. I just wondered what usually happens.

I'll keep an eye on fb and and keep my fingers crossed for a bit of luck. But either way we've never been to Disneyland before so we'll have so much to see and do anyway.

I've seen video on YouTube this weekend where they are already testing the ride system (you can see the doors open and the ride drop). If I were a betting person, I would say there will be some kind of soft open. Agree with above poster, they will probably do an AP preview, as so many APs have been blasting this ride as an abomination for the last 2 months, they are going to want to change the narrative.
