Since I know there are a bunch of leaders on these boards thought I'd post this. This is an idea for leaders of older Girl Scout Troops (Cadettes & Seniors).
My girls are working on their Cooking IPP. When we figure out which requirements we will do they have agreed to accept the input of their leaders in part to make sure they have a well rounded idea of the aspects involved (yea you can breath again and we hide the fact that sometimes we have to go do some research to figure that part out!)
Anyway, one of the requirements was related to gaining a knowledge of utensils, cookware, etc. My co-leader and I were struggling with this one a bit...how to make it interesting. We hit on making it a "shopping trip". We put together a multi-page handout with specifics and space to write along with a scenario.
Basically that they were setting up their first house or apartment and had been given $1000 by an angel to outfit their kitchen. The kitchen came with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave plus an aunt had given her a table and 4 chairs. Then there is detail on selecting everything from dishes and flatware to cookware and gadgets.
My DD and I went to our local Bed, Bath & Beyond yesterday to do her's and had a BLAST! I even thought to bring along a small camera to take pictures of some of the things she selected. Should make an interesting scrapbook page! And also fun to look back on when she is older and doing this "for real".
If you're interested in the handout just PM me with your email and I'll send you the file.
