so much $$$$$. Is it a special date or a convention going on?

Is anyone else renting that period? will repost if i get a good rate.

:(

I'm flying into Tampa on 10/19 and renting a car there (we have a family thing to go to before Disney). On 10/22 we are driving to Disney and turning in the car.

Avis Mini van
Base rate: 2 days, 17 hrs....
Total including surcharges and taxes.....$236.27 :(

I went to Sears.com - at the bottom of the page go to "more sears sites". There is an Avis link. At the time of booking my rental - Avis had the best prices. I heard too many bad things about the "cheapy" places.

And yes, I believe there is a convention that week. The Gartner Symposium.

We are renting from Budget using the Wendie's code I found here on the transportation board, D454300, from 10/18 and returning 10/21. $68.31 total for a compact car.

I also found a similar rate with Hertz, (RQ: XCT1) is $14.99 a day.

Good Luck! :drinking1

oh that's goodmickey fan. i'm NOT getting that now. :((( same dates as you!

flying into tampa the 18th and returning car to Orlando airport on the 26th and I finally got a midsize from Alamo for $138. I was getting really high prices forever and someone suggested cleraing my cookies and that did the trick. They are way up again now though. So I either got lucky or the prices will go down again after Columbus day

You are probably not getting those rates because you are picking up before noon on Thursday. Both the Hertz and Budget rates are weekend rates and don't go into effect until noon.

Not sure if this will help someone, but BUDGET & AARP seem to have some rate deals for Oct.

Otherwise, YIKES! These are worst OCT car rental rates I've seen in years!:crazy2:

I was coming on to post the same thing...Last year when we were there at BWV there was a huge Gartner convention going on.. bus loads of them arrived every day...they were at Swan and Dolphin , BW,BC everywhere,

Just checked website for Gartner....in ORLANDO OCT 21-25 only if this helps anyone.

I signed up with KLM and I am using that code with National. Makes me a little nervous, but I signed up, it seems legit.

i'm arriving 10/21 and leaving on 10/24 and got a compact rental for $107 total! i'm picking it up and dropping off at the wyndham hotel in downtown disney, though using dollar.com

i put in your dates and the same thing popped up! you have to click on the city special thingy; it says "CITY SPECIAL: Here are special rates on your dates in Lake Buena Vista, Florida"

I was incredibly lucky to check Dollar during a 24 hour period where their rates were incredibly low. We leave next week for a 4 day weekend trip and I got a mid size for $85 with taxes. Those rates disappeared as quickly as they came. Previous to that my lowest was reservation was also with Dollar for a compact and was around $50 more than my current rate. I have never seen rates so high as they are for this October and we always rent a car on our Disney trips.

Rental rates are the highest I've ever seen them for October. We've gone in October for the last 15+ years. We leave this Friday the 12th and the rates have gone up instead of down. I know sometimes they start to drop as your dates get closer, but we are 4 days away and they are now double what I booked. I thought my price was high when I booked it, but I'm happy I did book it. Hoping for some new last minute prices on Tuesday, but not optimistic.
