Aw, that's very disappointing. Here's hoping this rule isn't enforced or is changed in the coming months/year!

I wonder how they'd treat guests who are avid photographers with professional SLR cameras? They may think they are outside photographers posing as guests!

my best friends husband is a photographer as a hobby (not sure why he doesnt make it his career) and he has seriosu slr cams. and he will be a the wedding too.. they better not say anything! I also want him to enjoy the wedding and not stress about taking pics!! and i dont wanna stres over him taking pics and me not liking them.. i figured whatever he gets is just bonus!

Lurkyloo we can always count on you to get the scoop!

You are a walking DFTW encyclopedia! Where did you get this information from so quickly? You are Fab!:goodvibes

Maybe you should just invite Randy (or whoever you chose) as a guest! And your videographer too!

Thanks lurkyloo for clarifying this sad new policy. I was starting to get nervous because we have Randy booked for our Epcot wedding this October. It looks like we will be okay, but I will bring up the issue during our planning session next week.

well if they are gonna not allow outside photographers, then the better employee some better ones that KNOW how to take great pictures & i agree with someone who said that the girls should be allowed to pic their photographer & see some of their work

sorry to hear this girls

thats a good idea! :thumbsup2 I mean, are they going to stop someone from using MY SLR camera at my dessert party?? (not that this affects me, but still, I FEEL for you ladies!!)

Well Disney can consider themselves out the money for my vow renewal then!

I only want Randy, and renewing the vows aren't important enough to me to get another photographer who isn't up to my standards, because my wedding pictures definitely were not up to my standards even though I saw the work first. What I was shown and what I got were totally different.

I am going to see if I can just bring my dress, rent a tux for DH and take bridal portaraits with Randy.

This totally upsets me in one way because I wanted a vow renewal at WDW, but on the other hand, I will just keep the cash since nobody was going to travel to WDW to see us renew and put it toward a better wdw vacation/ porarait session with Randy.

This is only affecting in-park locations...you can still have Randy at the WP, SBP, & YCG

I'm sure they'll find a way to stop this kind of idea, but I'm not really sure how. I'd be very interested to see how. Guests have to stay in their seats at all times?

I agree that you should be able to choose a specific Disney photographer based on a portfolio of work. That's a lot of money to spend on something very important! You should be able to choose a style that you like and know you'll be happy about. It shouldn't be luck of the draw!

hmm.. i may be able to swing $350.00 for just the 30 mins during ceremony and the 90 mins during dessert.. they do split the 2 hours up to how you like right??

Unfortunately, DPS doesn't do a la carte services. You have to buy a package for a set number of hours. Maybe they'll add some a la carte options soon!

I still have DFTW on speed dial cuz I'm a nerd! :rotfl:

You are fine for this October. It's only people who sign contracts after October 1. You prolly signed your contract months ago! :thumbsup2

I think I'm going to start dropping bigger hints so that I can have a contract signed in time to beat this!!!! How upsetting!

see.. i disagree.. i almost dislike all the disney photographers i've seen. just not my style. and at that muc money, it better be my style!!

Thanks everyone for all your ideas and comments!

That's why I'm glad I didn't pay for it it was just in our package lol..we used Randy so we swapped disney wedding day photography for the honeymoon shoot...no way would I pay for it extra but I really really liked Regina who did our shoot and I was shocked at how nice the pictures came out..so if you HAVE to use a disney photog then see if you can get her..if it's that important to you to have an outside photographer for everything then I would use SBP...To me IMO Photography is the MOST important and I would rather switch..Just see what is more important to you..

Is there somebody who takes really nice pictures going to your ceremony???? you could have them take pics and see if your pro can photoshop some of them..IDK I'm just trying to help...I say switch to SBP unless you have your heart set on your ceremony in Epcot.

thanks i appreciate all the advice!! i think i decided to just bite the bullet and do a sept 09 wedding instaed of oct 09. by doing this i can sign the contract this coming sept which beats the cutoff for outside photographgers on oct 1,08... now i just gotta find 2,000!!! lol

Good I'm glad your ok now and will get to use an outside vendor..What a nightmare I felt so bad for you.Pictures and video are SOOOO important!!!!!!!!!!!

I got so nervous when I saw this post because my wedding is February 2, 2009 and I booked Misty Miotto for the whole day, including my DP. I signed my contract this month so I guess I am ok!!

I knew that with everyone using outside photography they would do something to limit it. By keeping the packages with 6 or 8 or more hours they make it so that you can't just use them for a dessert party.

Its only a matter of time until they make it necessary to use Disney for ALL locations...unless brides complain which I am sure they will. I know I would.

I am trying to see if I can request either Paul, Ty or Regina for my Magic Kingdom Shoot.

You'd think Disney would ENCOURAGE outside photogs, seeing as they do a much better job at capturing the essence of the park than their own... I think they'll be loosing a ton of money with this decision. :sad2:

Aww, Disney... Poor choice! Maybe some Disney executives need to go and sit in a corner and think about what they've done. :sad2:

Photography is SO important at a wedding. The pictures capture memories and moments. And style and talent can range and vary wildly. Disney seems to accept mediocrity from it's photographers, which is very sad. This rule would be enough to cause me to not have an in-park wedding and would seriously cause me to debate having a dessert party. I was unimpressed with my Magic Kingdom photos. They were predictable and boring, not to mention generally unflattering - just what you want from some of the most expensive photography out there!

I'm sorry, Disney, but BAD SHOW! (Why isn't there a scolding smile?)

Maybe brides should start writing letters. There are a lot of past and present brides out there, and I bet a flood of letters would at least open their eyes to the fact that we're not happy!

Good .Pictures and video are SOOOO important!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree. And that is why we are spending a small fortune on both :scared1:

Just got the same confirmation as everyone else about the october cut off point, we book next week so we are fine but I really feel for other brides out there :sad2:

LINZ xxx :)

I'll be honest, if Disney didn't let me have Randy, I would have cancelled. I DO NOT like disney photography. The service and the photographer were lacking professionally.

OK yeah that's pretty crappy rule.
But what about people who have their reception in the parks?
Wouldn't that be the same difference? You know what I mean?
Man... we had ours at SBP but I would be pretty peeved if they tell me I can't use roots for ours (regardless where we had it at disney).
Bummer girls... maybe if future brides write to disney they'll listen?
maybe?
