Groupon vacation package

Have seen some deals anyone done a trip through Groupon are they good ?

I know one lady that did a Costa Rica Groupon deal that had a great time and the place was nice. However, I also saw a segment on TV I think last week on the ABC show The Lookout. They went to a place in the Dominican Republic I believe, and their experience was quite the opposite. They had one of their people book straight through the resort rather than Groupon, and he paid less than they did! Plus, they had lots of problems not getting what was advertised.

I would research the heck out of the place before committing.

I've used them for a stay at a resort a few hours from home but I knew what their rates were typically and that it was a great deal when i saw it.

Double check your prices before you book. I have seen them and then when I ran the prices booking directly through the resort, it was always cheaper to book direct.

I have only booked local hotel stays, but they worked well for me. Like others say, double check the direct prices. Also, some times they will say 50% off or something and that will be off rack rate but they may have a special direct where you can get a better deal.
