Groupon/app/smart phone question

Can I sign into groupon on my phone go in to the groupon app without printing the coupon and show it to the store and they give me the deal that I bought or do I need to print out the coupon?

I had a Groupon for Smashburger and had forgotten my printed out copy. I was able to download the app and show it to them at the register for the discount. All he did was look at it, tell me to mark it as used on my phone and I got the discount.
