Group Dining?

Um is that a special number or something? Does that help you with just huge groups, or would 8 people-qualifiying for a Grand Gathering work too? I'm wondering if that would be helpful with my group of 8.

I do believe grand gathering is for 10 or more.

No, a grand gathering is 8 or more. Group dining is more than 10. Being a grand gathering will not get you any special treatment for restaurant reservations. It gets you access to the special Grand Gathering events, but that's about it. You must be registered as a Grand Gathering to book those.

Actually, this was our 3rd GG trip. We did all adr's online (except for the GG events themselves) this time. BUT..... the previous times, we actually DID use group dining and they were more than helpful. Got us all into Coral Reef when the regular dining line could only get us 2 ressies 10 minutes apart.

I don't remember a specific number because I believe I just called wdw-dine and asked for group dining. this was 2 and 4 years ago, so things may have changed but it's worth a shot. All they can say is no.
