Hi Kids,

I´m arriving in orlando on 22 Sept from NY with my mum, and I´m interested in the $49 a night rate advertised here for a Courtyard view room at the Grosvenor Resort at DTD. Having made a reservation enquiry, it seems to run for Sun - Thurs thru to the end of September right now, so I was thinking of maybe having a week at The Grosvenor before we make our way to the Keys for a few days.

Any of y´all who´ve seen my posts on it know I am a great fan of the Sheraton Fourpoints Lakeside on West US 192 and I was planning to book a week there, with the best rate currently showing on their website of $47/50 a night also.

I´d love any opinions on the Grosvenor, especially if anyone has stayed at both the above-mentioned hotels and can give me a comparison.

The $49 a night rate at the Grosvenor is a substantial reduction from the usual rate - is it worth what one would normally pay, and therefore, would it be a worthwhile upgrade in quality over the Sheraton ?

And I would be interested to know if the rooms at the Grosvenor have a refrigerator, or can one be hired ?

Quick replies would be appreciated as I would like to book my initial room quite soon. Thanks in advance ! :teeth:

My parents booked a room at the Grosvenor last Christmas at my suggestions (unfortunately) at a rate of $39, I believe. They left after one night. They said it was very loud (they didn't get much sleep) and somewhat worn.

Thanks SBC !

Anybody else got an opinion ?

We just returned from a stay at the Gosvenor. I thought it was ok but my Dh was not happy. It was clean and I agree with the other post that is was worn looking. The location is great and the bus service was good. There are refridgerators in the room and an ironing board and iron.

We stayed at the Grosvenor for 4 nights before moving to DL and we thought it was wonderful! Our room was large, very clean, not worn at all and yes, there was a refrigerator in the room. The best thing about this hotel for us was the location. It is literally just a short walk to DD. Every day after the parks we strolled over to Ghiradelli's for an ice cream cone or to just sit by the lake and people watch.

I have never stayed a night at the Grosvenor but my SO and I did go to the mystery dinner show there one evening on a past trip. We both agreed that the hotel appeared old and to use the word of the day - "worn". We were looking at a much higher rate to stay there than your $49 but thought that it couldn't possibly be worth the money. We would never stay there when there are so many other (nicer in our opinion) places to stay in the WDW area. That being said we have stayed at the Fourpoint Sheraton before. We were not overly impressed but we needed a spur of the moment room and they had availabilities. We would probably not choose to stay there for an entire visit. Have you considered the Courtyard by Marriot at DTD? They have a special rate of $25 a night Sun-Thurs. We have never stayed there but are thinking about snagging a room for a quick 3 night trip in a few weeks. I have heard good things about that hotel on this board. You can do a search. It is nothing really special but for $25 a night in downtown disney how can you beat it? Well....the $20.02 rate they had could beat it...but I do not know if you can still get that.

Here's an idea.. we just got back from a Hampton inn on Sandlake Road (corner of Sandlake Road/Universal Blvd), and we had a $39 which included breakfast, fridge and microwave...

You would have to drive, but it was fantastic for us.

Thanks everyone, any more views would still be appreciated.

Disney845,

I actually contacted the Marriott but they had no rooms at all left at the $20.02 rate and only one night during my first week at the $ 25 rate so no go on that one - you better be real quick if you want to get your 3 nights in ! I actually styed atthe Courtyard once many moons ago and wasnt overly impressed, but at $25 in that location, its still very hard to beat !

Cindy, thanks for the suggestion, but if I´m not staying on US 192, it´ll be at a DTD hotel/resort. :teeth:

I've posted on this subject before, but we enjoyed our stay at the Grosvenor last December very much. The key may be to get a tower room instead of a standard room. Our room was clean, large, and not worn looking at all. The refrigerator was a big plus. We liked the Grosvenor better than the Royal Plaza.

Well, for anyone who is interested, I bit the bullet and booked a week at the Grosvenor, starting the 22nd Sept, with 5 of those nights at the $49 rate, which I think is excellent !

I really cant see a hotel in that location not being up to scrtach, there´s just too much competition, and it sure looks nice from what I´ve seen here on the DIS and on the hotels own website. !

I´ll post a review when we get back in October ! :teeth:
