Hi can someone let me know what grocery stores/ little restaurants are located very close to SSR ? (can be reached by walk in a few minutes)

Thanks
Terence

The closest actual grocery store would be at The Crossroads. It would be about a 15 to 20 minute walk depending on how fast you walk. There are several restaurants there as well. There is a McDonals, TGIFridays, Pizza Uno, Taco Bell, Perkins, etc.

Saratoga Springs is very close to DTD. It would much faster to walk there, but there is no grocery store there.

I think the one at the Crossroads is Goodings. Just prepare yourself because their prices are very high.

We used Winn Dixie. Very convenient and reasonable.

We drive about 3 miles away and head to the Super Wal-Mart. It's quite an easy drive. Although don't ask me how to get there, I don't remember as hubby drives.

The Super Wal-Mart is the place to go. The prices are very similar...if not better than home (at least for me). One stop the first day there and we are good for a week. :sunny:

Super Wal-Mart is very easy to get to

When leaving SSR take a left onto Disney Vacation Club Way.

Next turn left the Road makrked to 1-4 and 536.

Turn right onto 535 and Walmart will be on your right hand side

Goodings - turn right when leaving SSR. Then take another right at the next intersection.

Take a left onto Hotel Plaza Blvd. Follow straight through to 535. You will see the sign for Crossroads.

The resort itself has a fairly good selection of basic groceries, including a chilled and a frozen section. The also sell a surprisingly good range of wines. If you want anything beyond what they offer I would suggest either having groceries delivered to the resort or taking a taxi to one of the stores already mentioned. DH and I have taken a taxi to Publix in the past, it's not far or expensive and the selection is really good. Customer Services are more than happy to call you a cab to take you back when you're done shopping. :)

For grocery delivery you can check the following web sites:
Netgrocer
Gardengrocer
WeGoShop

Hope that helps, :sunny:

how long is the walk to Super Walmart ?
> 15 min?

I don't think you would even think about walking it..... The roads to get there are like highways.

But I would imagine a cab wouldn't be all that expensive or you could get a one day car rental.. ($30-40)

Darn it.. I was looking all over for that Walmart one night and couldn't find it! It is the opposite direction from Goodings then? I thought it was off 192.. but then again.. I couldn't remember that either! LOL!! I did however find the Publix and the Outlets this trip! :)

The Publix behind the outlet mall / Dixie Stampede is very good and very reasonable. It is only a few minutes farther than Goodings but will save you probably 30%. Goodings is VERY expensive.

I timed it from the entrance to OKW at about 8 minutes each way.

We used the Winn Dixie a few times on our last trip and were very happy with the large selection. Plus they had a "souvenir" section where we bought our pin lanyards and other souvenirs for much less than at Disney.

It only took a few minutes to get there by car, but I wouldn't even THINK of walking to any of the stores mentioned. As long as it would take you to walk there, it would probably take twice as long to walk back carrying groceries. If you need anything beyond the basics that are offered at Artists' Pallete, I would call a cab.

We walked to Goodings from SSR once, but DH was decidedly grumpy when we finally got there. We took a taxi back. :teeth:

It's further than you think, I wouldn't recommend it.

The walk to Goodings is easily a mile or more.

Goodings is the ONLY supermarket that you can walk to. All other supermarkets mentioned would require walking on major roads with NO SIDEWALKS. Some of those roads has traffic going 60mph or more. It's probably not even legal to walk on those roads.

If you're only going to get a few supplies, get them on property. If you need a lot of stuff, get a taxi and go to Publix or someplace like that.

Who knows, maybe you'll run into a friendly DVC'er with a car who is going shopping and will give you a lift.

Another good alternative is to have groceries delivered, as LeCras posted a few posts up.

Honestly, Terence, I'd like to respectfully suggest that you not try walking to anywhere off property from SSR to buy groceries. The walk itself might not be so bad, but folks are so busy sightseeing on those busy highways, you might end up a hood ornament, plus you've got to haul all your purchases back to your villa.

You can get basics right there at Artist's Palatte (although the prices put you in mind of the Tower of Terror, just as high - but you ARE on vacation, and it IS Disney), or, maybe, the Hess station across from DD. Dunno what cab fare would be to Publix/Winn-Dixie/Wal-Mart, especially if they had to wait on you.

We like Winn-Dixie, just because the prices are good, and it's easier to get in and out of than Wally World. But we typically have a car, too.

I agree, the Publix is very close (closer than the WalMart). It also has much better groceries than the WalMart, especially the produce. I don't shop at Wal Mart at home, I certainly don't want to go to one on vacation. I highly recommend the trip to Publix. They also have a selection of tourist stuff like ice chests, hats, t-shirts, souveniers, post cards, sunblock, pool toys, etc.

There's also a Super Target nearby, which I prefer over WalMart. Head down 535 towards 192. Turn left on 192 and it's right there.
