not Goodings they other one but further down on the right, can't for the life of me remember what it is called but wondering what it compared to

 that all sounds a bit confusing :rotfl: I know what I mean though :rotfl:

It's called Publix and oppopsite the Premium Outlets. A bit more like Tesco I would say.

Claire ;)

Did you mean Walgreens Fl 32821? There are other supermarkets too Albertsons, Vista Food Inc 8484 PalmParkway, there are a few others if you look for them on google.

Winn Dixie 11957 South Apopka Vineland Road maybe :confused3

Publix is where most of us locals go to. The bakery is the BEST, it has a terrific deli, and lots of other items. I believe they have an extended British grocery area as well. Not huge, but more items than the regular Publix's would have.

Winn Dixie is okay. Stay away from Goodings. You can go to the Character Premiere for Disney souvenirs before Publix, it's practically right across the street.

thats the one Moira ;)

whats it like? never been in a Winn Dixie and thought Goodings had went a bit downhill. felt we would be nearly passing the door going to DTD rather than doubling back to Publix

Ohhh I forgot about that one LOL:lmao:lmao: just a thought that Winn Dixie used to be a small store it's been there a few years but they recently expanded it so now it can stock good range of groceries etc and should have good parking too It wasn't there in '98 but was there by '05 :thumbsup2 .It's just up the road from the Sheraton Safari hotel (on the corner of Palmparkway and SR 535)so it will be really easy to find:thumbsup2

It has a fantastic bakery - we went there last year for my 40th Birthday cake and it was wonderful.

We're there for my 41st this year and we will be getting the cake from Publix again.

Hi Ali

It's only a few years old and pretty good. Cheaper than Goodings, slightly more expensive than Wal-Mart but better selection. ABC liquor store is almost next door. There is a discount card that you can get just by applying - never bothered but maybe one day I'll see if they will accept OKW's address ;)

The best thing about it (for you and me :thumbsup2 ) is that it is easy to get to without going through the heavy traffic of DD area and Crossroads by turning left out of Vacation Club Way, right at the T-junction and then left onto Apopka Vineland at the Sheraton Safari/Olive Garden junction.

is it big inside or like Walgreens (didn't like Walgreens)

erm .... I'm not big on supermarket details so apologies if I'm way off (even though I was in the store only 8 days ago ;) ) I'd say it's a similar size to Goodings from what I can remember, maybe a bit bigger. Very clean, wide aisles and pleasant staff who help you to pack.

The website says it has: Facilities: Floral, Deli, Bakery, Seafood, Pharmacy

Hope this helps

Nearly all the "sale" items at Winn-Dixie stores require you to have their "Customer Reward" discount card. Do take a moment to get one if you don't already have one. They hand you the card on the spot so use your hotel address; it doesn't matter because they don't mail you anything.

Publix has various offers every week too but you don't need a discount card to get them.

At either store you don't have to buy the listed quantity in order to get the sale price. For instance, if the listed shelf price of an item says "2 for $5.00", if you only want 1 item it will be $2.50. Some people think you have to buy both to get the special price. However, some items may be marked as "Buy One, Get one Free". Then you will pay full price for the first item so you may as well take the second item because it's free.

Goodings is for tourists who don't know better. Everything is overpriced.

Walgreens is really not a grocery store, it's a pharmacy that carries lots of other items including a few grocery items. Prices are higher due to the convenience.

You have to do that over here otherwise you pay the regular price! I like it that you get a single item at discount as sometimes you don;t want 2 or 3 of that item :)

plan is going to have to be Publix or Walmart now as we arrive at 3.30 and Winn Dixie will be shut, went into their website and it shuts at 6 on a saturday :sad1: . dissappointing because it would have been really handy for us. will def. go during our stay though at some point.

Yes, Walgreens is a lot like Boots in the UK, but with some food items and lots of snack items.

One warning with Walgreens. If I remember correctly, when they have specials where it calls for multiple items, you DO have to buy the required number of items to get the sale price. For example, if an item is on sale 2 for $5.00 and the regular price is $3.50, you must buy both to get that $5.00 price for both. The register will ring up $3.50 for that first item and $1.50 for the second item. In small print below the 2 for $5.00 price it will say "1 item at regular price".

That's unlike Publix and Winn-Dixie where you get the sale price even if you buy only one of the multiple item offer.

Right, I do believe at Walgreens you do need to purchase 2. At Publix, you don't - unless of course it's buy 1 get 1 free, it's not half price for 1 (you do need to buy both!) I don't go to Walgreens much, I actually prefer Boots in the UK.

Publix has Kashi cereal on sale this week, it's my favorite! (buy 1 get one, so $1.60 per box - a bargain for the cereal).
