I had other questions about a grocery stop on the way to the resrot, and it was moved but I don't know where. So here is another question, and if it's moved please let me know where! If we get in close to midnight, is there a 24 hr decent stop we can make? Not like a 7-11, but like a superwallmart?

Goodings, a huge supermarket (with kind of high prices but great proximity to WDW) is open 24 hours...
it's located in the Crossroads shopping center....just across from the entrance to WDW that leads to the onsite non-disney hotels as well as to downtown disney...

There are also several Publix which is a huge chain in Florida, and substantially less-expensive than Goodings.

There is also a large Goodings on the south side of highway 192 less than a mile west of World Drive (just west of Splendid China). Certainly the closest big grocery store for All Stars, AKL and all the off-site Maingate West hotels.

There is a back-door exit out of WDW from the AK/AKL area which brings you out on 192 in the area of the Goodings. Make sure you notice where it comes out because when you go back in it's not really marked as a WDW entrance.

If you are in the Epcot/Downtown Disney area, the Goodings that disneyholic mentioned above is closer for sure. Magic Kingdom area is probably the same time to both because most of the trip to the 192 store is on World Drive.

Have Fun!

hi: you may want to check websites, but i believe there is a super wal-mart on 192. i think i remember reading posts about it. we usually stop at albertson's on the way from the airport, but i'm not sure what their hours are.

I'll never shop at this store again. It's very overpriced, crowded, and dirty. Plus the selection is terrible.

There is a brand new albertsons just off teh Greenway on the way to WDW from the airprot that's really ncie, and if you're going to have a car, there's a really nice Publix on Route 27 a few miles north of 192.

Sorry, no car...that's what makes it difficult, but using Happy Limo or Tiffany Towncar. Looking at a late flight, so many regular supermarkets may be out of the question. From what I remember from a couple of years ago, SuperWalmart is pretty far down the highway, so may not be an option either. Thanks for the ideas, though! Albertson's seem to be open later, some to 1am according to the site. I have heard no good things about Goodings. Thanks again!

If you use TTC, then I know they won't stop at the Super WalMart. They said it's always packed in there, even at 1:00am, and takes too long. They told me that Goodings would be our only choice at midnight. Fortunately, we got our flight changed and were able to do our shopping at Publix.

You might want to check out YourRide and see what options Rabbit offers.

Goodings is expensive but we always shop there (for years and years)....and not just for snack foods...
we take a villa with a kitchen for about 2/3 of our stay (we're there for 3 weeks every year)...
so we do a lot of cooking....
i like Goodings just fine...
we always found everything we wanted there and plenty of it...
and i never found it to be dirty or crowded (and we're there in the summer...)..
on the contrary, the one time we ventured over to Publix i thought it was way too crowded so we left...

but the main thing for us is convenience and selection.....

We've shopped at Goodings a number of times. Yes, it is pricey because they are convenient to the park and they know it.

However, I would be surprised if what you'd save by hunting for an out-of-the-way grocery is worth the hassle (and expense if you are using a limo service).

In our opinion, it is good enough for the few things we need to pick up quickly.

Tiffany will have no problem making the stop at Albertsons on S. Orange Blossom, and they are open until 1:00am. I really like this store, the prices and selection are very good.

Goodings is not only pricey, the selection is very poor, and the place is filthy and crowded. I'd skip the grocery stop and just get what I needed at the BW General Store if my only choice was Goodings. I was last in Goodings 8/01, and I'll never go back.

The majority of limo services offer a free grocery stop on the way between the airport and WDW. Tiffany, Happy, YourRide all do. So there is no expense. Additionally, the Albertsons on So. Orange Blossom is actually less out of the way than Goodings, considering the traffic snarls over in the Crossroads area. For Albertsons, you get off the Greenway onto the So. Orange Blossom exit, and it's right there. Easy on and off, big, new, clean store, no crowds, and prices like at home. Stopped there in 11/01 and 12/01. Found the new Publix on Rte 27 during the 1/02 trip. If you ahve a car, this one is easy to get to and a real winner!

I was in Goodings in Feb. of this year. It was fine. Not crowded and not dirty. It is more expensive, but I think the prices might start to come down. There is now a Winn Dixie just a short drive from Goodings and competition is always a good thing.

Since you have a late arrival this may be your best bet. What time does your flight land?

I have no idea! I know that sound funny, but here's the senario...
7 Girls Scouts 15 & 16 yr olds)
5 Adults
Orriginally fly down Early Sat. Morning ( Did I mention June 2004?)
SoG ( millitary family in my troop)
Sat. Sun, Mom, Tues, Wed. Length of Stay Passes
Thurs. Travel to Port Canaveral
Thurs, Fri, Sat Sun on 3 night Wonder
Sunday afternoon Fly home

Ok, so the idea has come to us that maybe it ould be a better idea to fly down on Friday night after the chaperones get out of work. So when the exact flight would arrive is unclear. I have searched the airlines for THIS June, so see what the choices may be. I could fly from Michigan and arrive about 11:00 pm. So the question is could we find somewhere acceptable if this works out this way! Palnning too far? Nah, with the winter storm we are having it keeps our sanity.:D

Girl Scout Leader,

I am also a GS Leader and have taken girls on big trips. I think you would be pushed to get to one of the stores that is not a 24 hour store. That many girls just move slow! By the time you get to baggage claim, locate all the bags, load the bags, stop at the bathrooms, etc.

However, by 2004 the entire Grocery situation could have changed so I would not worry about it too much yet. With that many people even if you can't get a good flight, it might be worthwhile to take a cab the next day to the Winn Dixie that is fairly close to Disney.

This sounds like a great trip! I know my girls would be jealous! Have you looked into the Disney education program (I know the girls don't want to be educated, but it is suppose to be fun!) Only one adult could go though and I vote for you!

Education??!! The horror!!! But what a nifty idea. Yes the bathroom breaks are not to be believed. thanks for the insight.:D

I have never made a grocery stop so I can't comment on that.

But have you considered netgrocer.com to just have your packages waiting for you when you arrive at the resort?

Or what about doing some shopping at home and either 1) shipping it to your resort or 2) Filling it in an "extra" suitcase so you are guaranteed an empty one on your return?

Just some thoughts!
Brenda

by the way...
i can't remember where you're staying, but you can probably get everything you need at the resort....some are better than others in terms of what they carry in their little stores...
and the food courts are open very early in the morning, so you'll have plenty of time to grab a bit before going to the parks....

we shop at goodings only when we're in a villa with a full kitchen...
otherwise we buy everything at the resort...
for example, when we stayed at dixie landings, i bought bagels and cream cheese in the store (it's much cheaper then buying them one by one in the food court)...also milk and donuts and cereal.....so we were all set for eating breakfast in our room and at a fraction of the cost in the food court...
i did the same thing at the boardwalk, YC and BC.....there's a nice disney store on the boardwalk that has a little grocery section.....it has a very nice selection of the kinds of things you'd eat in your room (ask the hotel for a little fridge for $10/day if you need to keep anything cold)...it has cereal, lunch meat, cheese, even food that can be cooked (since there are villas at the boardwalk...)

bottom line, if you're staying on property in a room without a kitchen i don't see the need to go off property to shop at all....
