I just spent $150. at the store and I have nothing to show for it. My husband even asked when I was going to do the grocery shopping? I need help and thought I would start with coupons. Any good sites out there. I am open to any suggestions. I want to save some $$$$$.

Subscribing!! I always read about these women who pay next to nothing for groceries, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out.

Ditto...I watched a show on the food network and this lady had a full grocery cart and left paying less then $5.00....my husband and I were so shocked we ended up laughing. How did she do that?

Firstly- if you're store has one of the discount programs, be sure you're enrolled! After that, start watching the circulars and figuring out what's on sale that week. When it's on sale, buy it. For example, we had a Buy One Get One Free on Lysol Bleach toilet bowl cleaner this week. Well, I only use Lysol Bleach cleaner. We bought 8 and got 8 free. You better believe I don't need it again until next year. I hate paying $4 for that stuff... and if there's going to give it to me for free, I'll take it!

Next, go in with a list. Avoid the impluse buys. By having a list, you can keep to it and cut down on the impluse buys.

We have a ValuPak that comes monthly that's fabulous- everything from dog grooming coupons to free meals, etc. Check ValuPak.com and see if there's one in your area. If so, take a look.

Get your coupons organized- and be sure you know what's up to date and what's not. Divide them by parts of the grocery store. When you're making your list, highlight the items that you have a coupon for so that you know the quantity you need and the brand to save.

My favorites include coupons.com, coolsavings.com, wow-coupons.com. Also, I have a tendency to check manufacturers websites for coupons. You can almost always find them for deoderant, etc.

Be sure and check the Budget Board for the latest listings, too, for things other than grocery shopping.

It take a bit of work, but I always walk out feeling so proud when I watch the cash reguster just take off the bucks as they ring the member card and coupons through. Once you figure it out, you just tend to do it.

Coupons are important but probably not as important as planning around store sales. Probably two-thirds of the things I regularly buy I NEVER buy for full price. I plan what we're going to eat by what's on sale and coupons and what I have in my freezer and pantry. I have finally persuaded my family that we pay $1.50 or so for cereal, not $4.00!

The key is to know what things cost so you know when you're getting a good deal. Then study the specials, so that you can take advantage of them. Make a list and stick to it. If you have trouble sticking to a list, then give yourself a budget and don't go over it.

Do you live near more than one store? How about drug stores? I buy milk at the drug store next to the grocery store b/c it's more than $1 less, so it pays to look at those types of stores, too.

I'm fortunate to live near an intersection with two grocery stores and three drug stores b/c driving all over town would not be cost effective. Still, you can save a lot of $ planning and educating yourself even if everything comes from one store.

Thanks...great info...keep it coming. I never use coupons so this is a bit overwhelming but I already found a few I could have used the other day. Does anyone have a standard grocery list they would like to share and tips on how they organize it.

I am coupon challenged - can never figure out when to use the right coupons. So, after watching a blurb on it on the morning news, I subscribed to the Grocery Game mentioned above. The last time I went shopping with their list and coupons, I walked out writing a check for $78.00 on a cart that originally rang up at over $350.00. The checker was calling people over - they had never seen so many coupons used at the right time.

How long did it take you to recoup the membership fee??? :confused3

Oh my gosh, that is amazing!!! :cheer2:

I am totally going to check that out!

A big problem for me is that the closest grocery store is 10 miles away, and it's a SuperWal-Mart, and that's it. No competition. SO, they don't have sales!!

Before dh and I moved, we lived within 2 miles of a Schnuck's and Shop'n'Save, and they are putting in a Dierbergs- so they compete heavily and things are always on sale. It's only 25 miles away, so I think I'm going to start going back there to do my shopping- better selection and you can find way better deals if you look for them.

And I'm checking out the GroceryGame! :teeth:

The grocery game is wonderful! I've been doing it since July and have save soooo much money. I recouped the membership fee on my first trip! It only cost $1 for a 4 week trial. After that it is $10 for 8 weeks at one store and $5 for each additional store. My first trip I saved $52! Definitely give it a try.

Thanks! I am definitelylooking into it- what is "the list" I don't really get how it works... :confused3

I'm another one who love www.grocerygame.com! :thumbsup2

I started in January, and now I can generally save between 40-50% off my bill. Like the above poster said, once you're past your first 4 weeks for $1, it's only $10 for 8 weeks. I definitely save more than $1.25 each week.

I used to spend between $150-200/week on groceries, now my typical tab is $100 or less. I like that Grocery Game does so much of the work for you, I wouldn't stick with something where I had to keep track of all the sales myself.
