We are coming to the Fort in October. We will be driving down from Wisconsin, with a stop in Atlanta for the night. I am trying to decide the best way to get groceries (perishables only).

1. Bring from home in cooler
2. Stop and shop at one of the grocery stores near disney (which one?)
3. Order from GardenGrocer

Looking for feedback on expense and convenience.

Thanks

My opinon is bring as much as you can with you. Any can goods, box or bag goods (like cereral, chips etc.) Even if you pick them up in GA before you head into Orlando. FW has alot of the little filler things you may need, like bread, milk, drinks, snacks, even luncheon meat etc. It's amazing how much stuff they actually do pack into their two stores. But, in my opinion based on my grocery stores here in the Tampa Bay area, FW and the Orlando grocery stores are a bit higher in price. So, I guess if you can afford it have your stuff delivered or buy it at FW. If your on a budget like DH and I are, bring what you can with you. :)

We bring non perishables with us and pick up perishables at WalMart or Publix.

We are also heading to the fort from Wisconsin in October. We are bringing our meats from home frozen and stopping at Walmart before we get there. We will load up and hopefully have enough for 2 weeks. If we run out we will fill in with stuff from the meadows or go out.

I would stock up in Atlanta where the prices are a bit cheaper, even though the sales tax is a little higher. Especially any adult beverages... Atlanta has the best prices I've seen. Our favorite wine, for instance, is $21 in NC and $15 in ATL (La Crema, yum!) The prices at Wal*Mart are not much higher than what we are used to in NC, so that'd be the choice for anything you need last minute.

Expensive meats from home frozen like steaks etc. and in the cooler other stuff that needs a refer and stop like at WM on 535 before WDW for the fresh stuff like lettuce, bread, veggies a lot that don't need a refer for several days.

I assume you will be staying in a cabin? If not an don't have the room in your refer the above para is most applicable.

I'm retired military and they sell frozen meats like choice tenderloin steaks for half price since they can't repackage them. Reduce tenderloin that goes for like $9/lb is $4.50/lb so I load up on the meats and even augmented out 7.1 cuft refer with one of the NORCOL 75lb refer/freezers that works out great for us. This option is a little pricey, but the convenience is great.

I echo this response :thumbsup2 get as mush as you can before going to WDW, don't make me have to go into my 2.00 can of soup story again

I also agree anything you can bring would be better but if you do forget there is a winn-dixie not far and a publiks also there is also a walgreenes a short ride from FW hope these help if you have a gps you can look up groceries and find more there is super walmarts, sams club, super target and i'm sure more if you are looking for a peticular store if you are there in Oct we may see you we will be there the 12-27 staying in a cougar TT hopefully in the 300 loop

I would say bring as little as possible, why waste the space. There is a very nice Publix Grocery Store about 5-7 miles up on Apotka Vineland (just outside the Disney Village Entrance). It's just past Bay Hill. The Store is very large and is located in the residential area so the prices are reasonable. We always stop there for Groceries and supplies that way we don't have to fill the Camper up for the trip.
We go to FW at least 6-7 times a year and go there every trip

My parents are meeting me in Orlando at the tail end of a five week trip. We'll probably be restocking their staples and buying perishables at Super Target or Winn Dixie. Super Target is pretty conveniently located (i.e., I can get us there without getting lost and it's between the airport and the Fort), but I have a Winn Dixie card. It doesn't do me much good in Michigan, but it gets me pretty good sales elsewhere!
