Groceries while flying solo

My wife will be flying into MCO, then to Beach Club Villas on a Sunday afternoon without the rest of us. We'll be meeting her Sunday evening.

She wanted to make a grocery stop, but it didn't make sense to take a limo for only one person. I'm assuming a Mears Shuttle, etc., is more economical. But then how to get the groceries?

Should she take the limo anyway, or should she head into Beach Club and then take a taxi to the nearest grocery store? Or are there other options?

Your wife could always order groceries from the beach club and have them deliver to your room. If you call the beach club they can email or fax you a grocery list. Also there are numerous stores that will deliver. I can't remember all of them but if you post the same question on the Dvc forum they can get you all the names. They are all very helpful at the DVC board.

Thanks. But is the cost of a custom order worth it when they might mess up your order, as opposed to "laying hands" on your groceries yourself?

How far is the nearest grocery store? Is a cab the only way to get there?

I am currently reading the unofficial guide and it says that Tiffany Towncar service (www.tiffanytowncar.com) offers a free stop at a local publix on the way to your hotel. Round trip to a disney resort is $80-90, not including tip (figure about half as much for 1 way). I have never used this but the unofficial guide appeared to give it a thumbs up. Perhaps some other people on this board can give you some better information on this service.

The closest grocery store to BCV is probably Goodings at the crossroads shopping center, just outside the Disney Village Hotel Plaza. Its quite a healthy walk from downtown disney and very expensive, though. Then there is a Winn Dixie on South Apopka Vineland road (beyond Goodings). You could also go to the Publix on 192 in Kissimmee. For both of these you would need a car or a cab.

FWIW - I agree with Herc - with how much you are going to end up spending you could probably rent a car. We have always found that option more economical.

Problem with rental is that there will be eight of us, and we don't have any plans offsite this time. So you're talking a car that can't hold all of us that we probably won't use more than once or twice.

How much does a compact go for for a week?

Depends when you are going and what kind of deal you can get. I would check elsewhere on this board for the answer for that one.

It depends on how much you think you will save by having the groceries and if that outweighs the cost of going solo in the towncar. Keep in mind that some of the limo companies only offer the grocery stop free if your going round trip - not sure about TTC.

You can call netgrocer and a few other companies and have your order waiting when you arrive. I haven't done it but my sil has and loves the service.

If at least some of you need transport back to the airport then then it may be most economical to do a r/t with the towncar. Your wife goes solo from MCO to BCV via the grocery and then a few of you return to the airport with her via the towncar. Its a set price r/t with the grocery stop for up to 4-5 people.

Another option is to have your wife take mears one way from MCO to BCV and relax. Then when the bulk of the party arrives use the towncar for the group r/t and go to the grocery. If you have over 2-3 people then a towncar is actually less expensive than mears.

I used netgrocer one year and it was great! I only had to grab some cold milk and cream for the refrigerator!
