Groceries at resorts vs. taxi to grocery store?

I have used WeGoShop once and Garden Grocer twice. I like Garden Grocer better. With Garden Grocer, we knew exactly what we were getting and everything was available. A few items we got from WeGoShop were substituted for things I would not have bought. Garden Grocer had everything packed well and it was waiting for us a Bell services when we arrived. I also had to change my order a few weeks before we left for vacation and their customer service was great.

They still have a website up, and has todays date on it. It also says they are open 24 hours, something I didn't know. And it looks like they deliver to WDW resorts. $50 minimum and a $25 fee.

Yep, that's what I've seen as well. I didn't know they deliver to WDW resorts, and didn't know they're open 24 hours either. I'm also wondering if the $25 fee is a fixed price, or depending the amount of goods ordered. Does anyone know?

I've found Goodings is almost as expensive as the resorts.

We take the Lynx bus from the TTC ($2.00 each) to the Publix grocery store on #192. We don't buy water or soda, but we buy about 4 cloth bags packed full of groceries. Back to the bus stop ($2.00) to the TTC, ferry or monorail and bus back to our resort. There are 2 of us to do the lugging.

At Gooding's prices of bread/bakery seem to have rised the past years so they're indeed almost as expensive as the resorts. Most of the other goods are still cheaper imo, and surely beverages.

Though ordering online seems convenient, I do like to go shopping at supermarket. As I'm from Belgium, Europe, there's a lot of goods we don't have over here, so I love to browse.

My personal experience has been that when we 'go shopping' (we've gone to Goodings, Publix, and used Netgrocer), we always get too much and end up throwing away food at the end of the week. For us from now on, we'll just buy every couple of days as we go along at the resort.

We've used WeGoShop twice and would recommend them! I like shopping home at my local Wal-Mart and picking out items for our trip knowing they have the exact same thing in Florida.

Last time I had my cousin, who lives 5 minutes from BWV where we were staying, get our groceries. I tipped her like I would WGS and it worked out great!

What do they have at the Hess stations? I haven't made it over there yet.

What about Amazon? We have bought some things and had them shipped to our house (gogo squeeze- my kids love them!).

Looks like you can order wine too.

Most items are free shipping over $25.

I just want to chime in to say how much we loved using Garden Grocer. We ordered a case of beer, case of water, 12pk of soda but also got yogurts, mikl and fresh fruits for the mornings. yes it was higher than my grocery shopping at home but very reasonable considering park prices. We paid #22 for a cse of beer so that is less than $1 each, go to the pool bar and they are at least $5

Just my 2cents, we really found it so worth it!

We are staying at Pop Century for the week and are going to have the Disney Meal plan...the middle package price one.....but our son is autistic and eats quite abit so we are looking to possibly get some extra food for the room.

what would be best solution for this?

I am not necessarily looking for "cheapest"...probably more "convience" considering we are on the grounds all week and do not plan on renting a car.

Has anyone ever purchased stuff at home and shipped it to Disney prior to arriving?

Hi Morganax - I've never purchased stuff at home, then shipped it, however with a now 2yo, what I've done is ordered through diapers.com (they now also have a sister site called soap.com). The soap.com website has quite a bit of convienience foods - snacks, oatmeal, etc. I didn't notice fruits, veggies or refridgerated products like milk, but they had most everything else. When we went to WDW in March, we brought oatmeal and some baby food snacks that DD likes. It worked out perfectly for us. We had it sent to the hotel, and it was waiting for us when we checked in.

When we have not had a car in the past, we packed as many snacks as we could fit into the checked luggage, and then supplemented with the DVC convenience stores or the Hess station (the one by the Boardwalk, you can walk to it).

Here are some pictures as to what types of things are available at the DVC stores. Taken September 2011 at SSR.

As far as prices go, the Hess station has better prices than the DVC stores, but you have to take into consideration the time to get there. The DVC stores are just so doggone convenient, you know?

That said, now, we ALWAYS rent a car. Those of us with food allergies can't eat a whole lot at the Hess or DVC stores, so Publix is our grocery of choice (the one by Gaylord Palms is nice- we have been there a few times). Goodings is WAY expensive, if it's even there anymore. There's a Super Target, Walmart, and Winn Dixie not too far away, but Publix is always my Florida grocery of choice .

All of THAT said... grocery delivery is more convenient. In fact, I think I MET the Garden Grocer at Publix (by accident) last September. A lady overhead me talking to Disney on the phone, then telling my DH that our room wasn't ready so we should probably wait to get the cold stuff. Then she came up and told me to go ahead and get the cold stuff and leave it with Bell services in their fridges, because she's a grocery delivery service and does that when the rooms aren't ready or the guests haven't arrived yet. She was so sweet for telling us that and saving us back and forth trips to Publix.

Goodings is still open. I shopped there last Sunday. Some people feel the prices there are very high. They are only a little higher than my grocery stores at home.

I shipped a box to the Contemporary in 2009. It was cheaper than an extra luggage and worked out well. I asked for it at the front desk when we arrived and it was there.

I packed diapers, wipes, snacks, breakfast foods, and some easy little heat up dinners.

Semi-bump to ask a Q, instead of making a new thread...

So my family flies in on Saturday, staying at AS Sports. We're flying Southwest, so we have more free checked bags than needed and are packing a small carry-on with cereal, disposable bowls & spoons, Capri Sun & some other, flight-friendly non-perishables.

Pretty much all we need is milk, some fresh fruit for 5 (bananas & apples) and water (a case and some gallons, couple of us have hydration packs).

Was going to use GardenGrocer but it seems awfully pricey (around $45 before the delivery & fuel charges) for things that I know would be significantly cheaper at Wal Mart. Considering WeGoShop now instead, but despite all the praise here, it just feels...odd, i guess, that I, relying on someone else instead of *knowing* (the prepaying of GG).

So idk, I guess I'm just looking for some advice, what would you guys do if those were the only items you needed? GG or WeGoShop?

I suggest going to the TTC (MK) and catching a Linx bus #56 to Publix. It's about a 15 minute trip,once you are on #56. Tell the driver where you want off. Get off at Walgreens. It is behind Logans, set in. The busses run every half hour. It should cost about $2.00 each way. If you have a lot of water you may have to take a taxi back, but the AS Sports is the closest resort from there. It shouldn't cost too much.

I used strollers and groceries on our last trip, it was great. We rented a stroller and the grocery delivery was free.

Check with your hotel to make sure there isn't a delivery fee if you have something shipped there (UPS, etc). I THINK Coronado (since it is a convention hotel) has a delivery fee for packages.

We ended up with a super great car rental rate last year ($88 for a week -Dodge Charger - wow!) so we didn't have to do the 'pack it' version. But I did have a few very durable cardboard boxes to put inside of my suitcase (I have softside). In those I was going to put the snack bars, cereal boxes, etc. We were just going to buy milk at either Hess (we were going to DTD anyway) or at the Resort. I did pack plastic silverware, disposable bowls, etc.
