Hi all - do Grizzly River Run and the Redwood Challenge areas close at any time during the year? We are headed there for Thanksgiving and not sure if the weather is tool cool to keep these open?

Do they have any seasonal closures for anything? Tom Sawyer Island? Canoes?

We were at DCA a couple years ago during Thanksgiving week, but I cannot remember if I even saw activity in these areas, or even what the weather is like!!

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

The weather is pretty reasonable year round, and I can't think of anything that closes seasonally because of weather. Some rides may close when the rain gets bad, like Alice in Wonderland because of its outdoor components, but I don't believe Grizzly River Run and Redwood Challenge areas would close.

There are things that close seasonally due to lower crowds. The canoes usually are only open at peak times.

When Splash and Grizzly do need extended maintenance, historically it looks like they most often pick January, February, and/or March to do that work.

Grizzly and Splash traditionally go down in February for their yearly maintenance. We usually go in February, and they are rarely open on our trips... DD has been to DL several times, but always in Feb, so her first trip in June this year was her first time on Grizzly....

I was there in Jan/Feb and the entirety of that section of the park was closed, but that may be a bigger refurb than usual because it was just before the 60th. But with water-based rides you can count on that they're going to have their refurbishment done in the winter months.

Since November is still really busy, I think you have a much better chance of it being open than if you were to go in Jan/Feb.

I"m pretty sure Redwood Challenge closes for a few months during the colder months. My 5 yr. old really enjoys it and I remember it being closed when we visited a couple times during the winter in 2014. I'm sorry I can't be of more help than that.

We were there last Dec and all were open including the canoes. I believe the challenge closes early and the canoes only open during busier times/days though. Not sure if a hard rain would close them but we had sprinkles and they stayed open.

I watched a video which said that Grizzly River Run can use less water so you won't get as wet in the cooler months. It said it is one of the few water rides designed like this. (The video is a few years old- an Amazon Prime instant video about Disneyland).

It won't close in Nov because of cooler weather. We were there thanksgiving week 2 years ago and actually had some pretty hot temps. It was nice to go on the water rides and cool off

As others said, those areas are not likely to be closed in November. Last year the area was closed as part of the whole reimagination of the area where they extended the forest theme into the airfield area. I think both Splash and GRR typically go down in cooler Jan-March and open before Spring Break. It isn't necessarily an annual closure though, but it is the best time of year to do a renovation on those rides. Summer and holiday seasons are not a good time for rides to be closed as the parks are so busy. November is a nice time to visit. It's generally not hot, but not too cold. Holiday décor is up and the parks are beautiful. The crowds are pretty good as long as you avoid the holiday weekends.
