Is outdoor grilling a “Man’s Job”?

Many men who feign cluelessness in an indoor kitchen are proud to be King of the Outdoor Grill.

Way back when, men like my father, who probably couldn’t boil water inside, were expected to grill the burgers and hot dogs outside.

I suppose it was the old stereotype. Indoor chores are a woman job, outdoor tasks a man’s.

More often than not, when I’m outdoor grilling, DW elbows me out of the way.

I do almost all the grilling at my house, but, I do the great majority of all the cooking.

I know a few couples where the female does most/all of the grilling.

DH does about 90% of the indoor cooking and 99% of the grilling. I only grill if he is not around to do it. But I will assist him in or out of the kitchen when needed.

I can grill, but I prefer H to do it, especially too hot, too cold, too rainy. I do most indoor cooking. I clean and do laundry, he handles outside stuff (although we have a landscaper). He and the boys shovels.

We have a gas bbq and I do all the grilling, although my husband is the fixer if there is an issue turning it on.

I've never grilled in my life. I don't remember seeing any of it growing up either, so I can't say whether it was considered a mans job. I also don't remember ever seeing a man cook so I'd have to guess and say no, it wasn't.

I'm the only one who grills at our house (female)
No, but out of necessity for about the first 20 years of our marriage I did all the cooking, whether it be on the stove are the grill. I worked overnights, and my wife worked days and didn't get off work until 5 or 6 pm, and for a while she worked until 630 pm and if we waited for her to come home and fix dinner, it would be 730 or 8 pm before we ate. I normally had dinner ready to put on the table when she walked into the house.
The last 20 or so years, we both moved to similar work schedules. 3 am to 11:30 am, and she took back ALL the cooking including the grilling. But she loves to cook. And now we are retired, about the only time I cook is when my wife wanted Macaroni and Cheese. NO, not the stuff from a box, I make it from scratch which isn't remarkable more work than opening the box, to be honest.

My dad was a chef so if he was at home at dinner time he did all of the cooking in the kitchen and on the grill. In general my stepmother and the rest of us were kind of his prep cooks. My stepmother had things that she only made and then dad would be her prep cook. Dad did tons of grilling on the Hibachi and when I met my DH, Dad taught him to grill. Of course Dad taught me to cook so our household just kind of fell into that pattern. I do most of the indoor cooking and he does all of the outdoor cooking. I’ve never learned to use the grill because I just can’t be bothered. It’s not that one is a man’s job and one is a woman’s job in our house, it just worked out that way.

dh is an excellent cook-indoors and out BUT we have an arrangement wherein he does the bulk of the nice weather cooking on one of our two outdoor grills (easy and fast gas/longer but well worth it big green egg). i do the prep work of making skewers, marinating...he cooks it. during the colder months since my strong suit is scratch made comfort food (soups, stews, sauces, enchiladas, some foreign treats, roasts....) i cook (he will do prep work for me-veggies and meat cut/cubed/ground). works out well.

My wife can grill but she's impatient waiting for the heat to get to searing temp. She'll put food on at 350 and it leaves a mess afterwards. But she's ok with it because no matter which one of us grills, I clean it afterwards.

My husband does all the grilling. It’s pretty much the only way I can get out of cooking.

I do all of the grilling and I also do my share of indoor cooking. In fact, I'm cooking tonight. (Indoor).

I would say we are pretty much 50/50 on who grills. We live on the east coast but my husband’s company is in the west coast so he tends to work later than me. On those days I grill. If he’s off from work he will grill so I can prep the side dishes that go with what we grill at the same time.

My DH does most of the grilling. I will do it if I need to, but I don’t enjoy it (I’m not very good at it, and I have no desire to try and get good at it - LOL!)
