Trying to decide between Griffith Observatory and California Science Center. We plan on doing one before a Thursday 6pm flight home.

Traveling are myself, hubby, DS11 and DD8

I know the views are said to be amazing at the iconic Griffith Observatory. Not too many museums in Montana, but kiddos have been to a planetarium at the Museum of the Rockies. It will be a day trip so we will not be there at night.

Space shuttle Endeavor at the California Science Center is definably a check in its column. Hubby and I traveled to Pompeii so that would be a fun to see wit exhibit. Kids have never been to and IMAX. I hear parking can be a nightmare, but that is no big deal.

Both kids are very inquisitive and will love either one I'm sure. What is your favorite?

We don't have a favorite - as you point out each are quite different.

From what you say here, California Science Center is the best option for you. More to do and the kids will love it.
