So last time we met I was leaving the Animal Kingdom for a round of golf. Well, just as we were leaving the park the rain started and it POURED down.
We headed over to Oak Trail anyway just in case it eased off.
While we were hanging around DH decided he was hungry so he grabbed a hot dog from the small kiosk near the pro-shop. He really enjoyed it and I am pleased to report it was a soft and fluffy white bun!!
I didnt feel particularly hungry so I just grabbed a coffee.
The rain didnt look like stopping any time soon so we headed back to our hotel to relax and get changed for our visit to the Animal Kingdom Lodge
We arrived at the resort early as we wanted to have a look around the hotel and check out the animals on the savannah. Its a beautiful resort so its well worth spending some time looking around and as the rain had now stopped it was a lovely way to start the evening
I checked in at Boma 15 minutes before our ADR time and we took a seat on the benches next to the podium
Our buzzer started to flash pretty much exactly on our ADR time and a friendly cast member took us over to a really nice table towards the back of the restaurant next to the window.
It was a busy and bustling restaurant but where we were seated felt quite calm and secluded.
Our server arrived at the table, welcomed us, explained how the buffet worked and recommended a couple of dishes. He then asked us what we would like to drink, DH stuck to water but I had only one thing on my mind
.. one of these babies
Magical Star Cocktail - X-Fusion Organic Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice
This was every bit as good as I had hoped, it was sweet and delicious (without being over sweet) and it really hit the spot
Before long we went to check out the buffet. I really liked the way that there were different pods with the various dishes on display. It meant that you didnt have to stand in one big line at sections that didnt interest you and was particularly good for me and DH as he could head straight to the meat sections and I could check out the vegetarian and fish options
Although I didnt take any photos of the buffet area I was really impressed with how fresh everything looked and the staff were really keeping on top of cleaning down and replacing any empty dishes.
One of the things that has put me off buffets in the past is that I dont like the idea (or taste) of food that has been sitting under a heat lamp for too long or hanging around for fresh supplies

. Neither of these issues were a problem at Boma
We both decided that we would like to try some soup to kick off our African adventure
Creamy Carrot & Ginger Soup
Yummy, yummy, yummy
. And once more to make the point yummy !!
This soup tasted wonderful, it was the perfect consistency, taste and temperature (in case you hadnt worked it out yet I LOVED this

) The amount of ginger was just perfect and it was beautifully creamy and smooth
When our server came to clear my empty bowl he asked me what I thought of it (I think he saw me licking the bowl

) I told him how much I had enjoyed it and he asked me to wait a few moments as he was going to get something for me ??
Soon he was back at the table with a bowl of Roasted Butternut Squash soup from next door Im not sure if he meant Mara or Jiko and I forgot to ask.
Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
He thought I might like to try it as in his opinion it was just as good as the Carrot and Ginger (he was right !!) What a nice gesture and what a great server
We shared the soup and by the time we finished DH was more than ready to release the carnivore within !!
DHs first plate:
Pork, Prime Rib & Fries
Yeah, I know, he got fries from the kids section

DH isnt usually that descriptive about his food but he did say that the Pork was delicious and by far the nicest thing on his plate. He also enjoyed the beef. I asked if if any of the meat seemed sweet to him as I have read on the DIS that a lot of people have found this. He said it wasnt but couldn't really put his finger on the spices used but he certainly enjoyed it
OK, onto my first plate
This buffet was just perfect for me as there was a huge amount of things I could eat and I loved trying all the different dishes.
It's kind of hard to see exactly what was on my plate as dishes were places on top of each other (sorry I'll do better on my next trip!!)
My favourites were the Couscous Marrakesh, Spinach & Corn Porridge (yes I know it sounds weird but it really worked) the Fu Fu, the grilled salmon was wonderful and the Tamarind sauce was the perfect accompaniment, sweet without being over sweet. Somewhere hiding beneath the salmon was some Avacado and Grapefruit salad (lovely)
We were both getting fairly full but there were still a couple of salads I wanted to try and the pita breads and hummus were calling my name. Sorry didnt get a picture of my second plate but I had some Mealie bread. Pita with black bean hummus and red pepper hummus
The breads were delicious but I though that both of the hummus dishes were a little too salty for my tastes.
DH went back for some more pork so he must have really loved this, he also got some of the salmon but he really didnt like the sauce as he felt it overpowered the fish. He also tried some of the chicken but didnt enjoy the seasoning and spices used and thought it was a little dry
I may have been full but there was no way I was missing the desert section!!
Clockwise from the bottom of the plate, chocolate & ginger mousse, tropical fruit panna cotta, African cofee tart, caramel cheescake and last but not least the zebra dome
I love that these are small bite size deserts as you can get a nice selection and try different things
I loved the Zebra domes, totally delicious (I went back for more) DH wasnt keen on them. The caramel cheesecake was fantastic and DH went to get more!!
I wasnt too taken with the tropical fruit panna cotta but Im not really a fan of this type of desert anyway.
The chocolate and ginger mousse was nice nothing spectacular but I enjoyed the African coffee tart (DH didnt try this as he doesnt like the taste of coffee)
Obviously having two small pieces of fruit on the plate instantly makes it really healthy and cancels out any sugar and calories consumed
Overall I would rate Boma really highly. This ADR was probably always more for my enjoyment than DHs as I knew that there would be a huge amount of vegetarian and fish dishes for me to sample but DH said he would definitely eat there again and we had a great evening

out of

I would probably give it 5 out of 5 but DH would give it 4
We settled our bill and waddled out of the restaurant for the short drive back to the hotel with full bellies and happy hearts
Coming up next
Yay, its time for the Magic Kingdom!![/size]
