Hello Dis'ers-

I am currently in Baku, Azerbaijan and thought that fellow Dis'ers would like to know that Mickey and Minnie are found frequently here!

Azerbaijan borders Russia, Iran, Georgia, Armenia and the Caspian Sea. It is a beautiful country, and I am here to train physicians in rehabilitation methods (humanitarian mission). It's actually my last day here, but I thought I would check the Disboards. Shows how much I miss home!

I saw Mickey and Minnie in taxis and at the outdoor markets. I bought Russian stacking dolls with Ariel painted on them (I bought a traditional Russian one, too). It is funny to be 4000 miles away from home, but still see American icons!

Since there is only one internet connection for the entire hotel, I will keep this brief- just wanted to say hello! Can't wait for my trip to Disney next month-

Sounds like a cool mission! Hope you enjoyed your trip!

My husband is going to be so jealous!
His trip to Baku this month got cancelled!
Although he would be going for very different reasons....but still, he REALLY wanted to go (and I think, was the only on in his office that really did....there was no competition for that trip!).

Hope you had a good visit and were able to do everything you set out to do there!

I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of your Ariel stacking dolls. Are they all Ariel, or are there other characters stacked inside?

:wave2: Sounds wonderful to travel so far away and see
Mickey. Have a safe trip home and see you in Disney.

I'm glad you posted where it was b/c I would have been forever looking for it on a map

Have a great trip!

Thank-you for thinking of us back here in North America during what must be a very busy time for you. I hope your mission met its intentions and that you had a wonderful experience in such a far-off country. :wave2:

I will try to post a picture when I can. There is Ariel and Flounder, then a smaller Ursula, then Sebastian, a fish my daughter couldn't identify, and then the smallest one is a shell. She has really loved these!

Thanks to all- I really think we accomplished what we set out to. We learned a TON in the process! Mostly, we learned that although our methodology is very different, basically we are all people who want to help others.

It was a very rewarding experience. I am glad to be home though!

I think Disney is popular in that region, when we were in Kazakhstan, I bought a set of Lion King nesting dolls, its something from our DS home place and works in my Disney collection ;) they are painted pretty well.

How wonderful that you do such important, giving work! :flower:

Please, if you have time, let us know what the climate & geography is like.
Have you encountered interesting customs?
enjoy a safe trip home!

I've never seen stacking dolls like that. It must have been so neat to see Disney even when you were so far from home!
