I was fortunate enough to get some information about, and try out this website.
No, this isn't a paid endorsement, lol...
The brands exercise pretty tight control over the pricing of their new photography equipment. Typically, you might save a bit buying grey market. But if you want to buy authorized USA market, get full warranty protection, etc... There is often little listed discretion in price. B&H, Adorama, Amazon -- All sell Canon/Nikon/Sony photography gear for the same price.
Well, I got a brand new, USA model with full NikonUSA warranty protection, Nikon D750 for $2150, and I have a rebate of about $110 on the way, bringing the whole price down to below $2050 --- So saving over $250.
It came from an authorized Nikon retailer. Price included shipping and tax.
The way it works, you search the item you want to buy... The website will tell you what major retailers are charging. You offer the price you are willing to pay. The website then reaches out to some partnered retailers, to see if they will accept the price at a quiet discount. (I have been asked not to mention the name of the authorized retailer that sold me the camera, but I did confirm they are indeed on Nikon's authorized retailer list).
Then until the end of October, the website offers another 5% cash back rebate with the promo code "fall5"
My offer was initially a little lower than a retailer would accept. I was emailed by the founder of the company (I assume it is still practically a start up), and he told me if I raised my offer to the certain number, there was a retailer who would accept it.
There is no guarantee that your offers will be accepted... I wouldn't expect massive savings, I wouldn't expect low ball offers to be accepted. As I build up my new Nikon kit, on some other gear, I've had some very reasonable offers go unanswered. (For example, I tried to save $20 on the Nikon 50/1.8 g, and nobody picked up the offer). But I had the savings on camera body, and I think I am potentially going to save another couple hundred on a premium lens.
The entire experience was professional. Today I received the Nikon D750, totally brand new, receipt from the authorized retailer, Nikon USA warranty card in the box...... It was a bit more than eBay gray marketers, but much cheaper than any *advertised* official price.
So I wholeheartedly endorse this website.
