Greenock, Scotland port....what's best for elementary school aged children?

Am a bit lost about what to do when we get off in Greenock. Any ideas? Thanks!

There's not much in Greenock itself, but both Glasgow and Loch Lomond are easily doable. In Glasgow I'd suggest the Kelvingrove Art Galleries as there's lots there for kids. You can do boat trips on Loch Lomond and there's also a small Aquarium and a bird of prey centre.

Stirling and Edinburgh are a little further, but both have excellent castles to visit. Culzean (pronounced Cullane) has a really good adventure play park and has lovely walks, on a sunny day it would be a really good choice. .

We live not too far from Greenock, so feel free to ask anything else. We're planning to pop down when Magic is in port, to show our wee boy the boat he'll be going to Spain on.

Thank you! I am trying to decide what to do. Is the Edinburgh castle a must see? How does it compare to Stirling castle? I had chosen the Edinburgh Zoo and city highlights tour. We won't see inside the castle but will see it from the outside and see the city.

Edinburgh Zoo is great, but be careful if it's the Pandas you're gong to see. You need special tickets, as they're so very popular. Make sure the tour includes them! Even without the pandas, it's a good visit, especially the penguins.

Both castles are great, I think I prefer Stirling castle, but many people would say otherwise. They're not the sort of castle you can just pop into though, there's lots to see at both. So if you can't give it a couple of hours, then I'd leave it for another time.

If this is our first time to Scotland, would you recommend going to Edinburgh even though it is further than Glasgow? Our kids would be 11 and almost 13 at the time of the cruise. So hard to narrow all the lovely choices down to just one, but of course that's the only option.

Although Glasgow is vibrant with lots of great architecture and museums, I would go to Edinburgh if this is your one and only time in Scotland, it's more iconic. The hop on hop off buses are good. I use them often when I have friends visiting. I would definitely recommend getting out of Greenock- lets just say it's not the most picturesque of places but well situated for lots of places, which must be the reason Disney uses it.
