We've just had a great time in Edinburgh - combination trip for us and our friend's who've never flown before, nor stayed in a hotel:D

I decided to treat the three of us, plus the three of them to a weekend away as it was my DH's birthday last week, our friend Dave's 40th the day after we came home, together with Xmas pressie for Lesley (Dave's wife) and Nathan, their 10 year old DS.

Managed to pick up bargain EasyJet:rolleyes:   tickets last November. We stayed for Saturday night at the Gatwick Hilton, arriving at about 4.30pm. Took the friends over to the airport as they were full of excitement (and nerves;) ) about flying the following morning. We ate in Garfunkels for an early tea, then went back to the Hilton for a session in the swimming pool we've never used before!

11.15 flight out the following morning - the least said about EasyJet's customer services - or rather lack of them - the better:mad:  . Flight up pretty uneventful. I'm used to flying from Southampton to Edinburgh on business, so flying from Gatwick was a novelty:) The weather was, unfortunately, cloudy so we didn't see a lot until we flew over the Firth of Forth bridge just before landing. I love that view:D

Dumped the bags in the hotel - lovely place, used it a couple of times before and they didn't let us down. Then we hot footed it (or rather hot footed the wallet with two taxi's) down into the City where we mooched, ate and then visited the Edinburgh Dungeons. I cannot recommend this "frightful" place enough - brilliant. DD Katie got put in the "Crime and Punishment" trial box for "eating too many baked beans and letting off obnoxious gasses throughout Edinburgh" - how apt;) - and then our friend Dave got put in there for stealing women's pink nickers and bras -Dave is now known as Shirley the Girlie :p - and we've got the photos to prove it  Once we'd stopped laughing the rest of the tour went fabulously - really gory some of it. I'd done one of the Edinburgh ghost tours one night a couple of years ago which was spooky enough, but this was just superb.

The only downside to the weekend - apart from coming home - was Nathan, our friend's DS who unfortunately rather played on the fact that he'd been poorly all week. Nevermind, it was his loss - we had a great time.

In true Dazzle style, we always manage to have one pickle to sort out when we're away anywhere. Last time we went away with these friends to France, I managed to get lost - or rather they got lost - in the hypermarket. Panic nearly set in cos my old mobile was no good over there, but we managed to find ourselves eventually. I was ok, mind, cos I'd got the trolley full of booze and food;) ).

We got back to the hotel Sunday night and Katie decided to unpack her case - "who's got the key for the padlock on my suitcase?". Darryl and I looked at each other - "what padlock???". To cut an ever so long story short, bags has got confused at the airport and someone had gone off with Katie's little case and we'd got theirs!! Can't believe someone's got the same bag as Katie, unbelievable cos it's so unusual. So another expensive taxi trip to the airport and back for Lesley, Katie and I. We did had a good ole giggle. The poor lady whose bag we had - she must have wondered what we going on when she opened Katies. There was her precious Eeyore, Cheezer the beanie baby mouse that goes EVERYWHERE with her and clothes for a 10 year old:eek: :p :p

Then I got really depressed as we walked through the terminal after landing at Gatwick just to see the Virgin check-in opening for Twilight check-in. Ooooooh. Never mind, only another 11 weeks before we'll be using it for our trip to St Lucia, yippeeeeee.

We've just loaded some of the more gory photos on to the computer from the dungeons and where there's light from the flash we're seeing things we didn't see on the day in the gloom . . . and wish we hadn't ;).

Half therm this week, so relaxing. and chilling out.

Great little report Annie :) ! I'm glad you all had a great time - you'll see on the thread I posted that I'm hanging my head in shame about Darryl's birthday.

This friend of yours - Dave - he doesn't have an alias does he? (i.e. AKA Kevin Stringer? He's very partial to pink accessories too :teeth:) ..... but Shirley the Girlie eh? Hmmmm ;)

Sounds like you had a great mini break Annie - love the story about the case!

I loved Edinburgh when we went up a couple of years ago - just didnt get to see enough, but will def. be planning another visit.

We spent a couple of hours in a Pub called Frankensteins - did you go in there? Lots of gory displays etc. It was Katie's local when she was in the festival there.
