So on the budget boards, I am always reading about all these ways people are saving/earning money for Disney, but they are almost entirely US based, and not applicable to Canadians!!! I thought I would share a discovery I made This past spring that has litterally paid for our vacation in May, and is sending us back to WDW again in December!!!

Ever heard of Usborne Children's Books? Well they are these award winning children's books that teachers love, and most importantly, so do kids!!! I was invited to a party, was instantly in love with the product, and decided to start selling it a few weeks later. It's rediculously easy... you get a TON of free books for your kids in the process, and since March I have made well over $1000 each month!

Just thought I would share, since it's hard to afford my WDW addiction, especially with the cost of flights now adays! I figured, if anyone else was interested in knowing more about the company or how it works, they could PM me and I could share more... hey, if it helps get us to Disney faster... I am ALL for it!!!

Hi Kim, I have just sent you a pm for more information.

Thanks, Suz

hey, that sounds like a great idea. i would LOVE more details, sounds like one of those too good to be true, so it is, type deals. but hey if youhave made money, its more than you had before, and brings you closer to Disney right?! :thumbsup2

Oh trust me... I totally hear you! There was no way before attending a party and actually seeing the books, had I EVER imagined selling something (Home business) to make money... it just wasnt me, and it always seemed to have a catch!!! HAHA

But seriously, it is soooo worth it. I have a couple friends that were kind of sceptical too, but have since joined and love it. I am not saying it is just money in the pocket without an effort... I put in a few hours a week (2 or 3 hours a week in prep and then 2 or 3 hours a week with an event), but to me that is SO worth the $$ I have made. It's a good fit for me.

I'll send you more details!

I thought your post was a great idea! I also have my own home business, The Pampered Chef, and I have been using it to supplement our family income for trips and expenses. It is such a great way to get out of the house for two nights a week and socialize with other women (sorry guys it is usually women!) There are lots of great Direct Selling opportunites that I don't think many people are aware of. Thanks again for the post and continued success with your business. As my kids like to say "Mommy's off to a party" it really doesn't feel like work!

I'd love the details too if you wouldn't mind PM'ing me. DS has a bunch of Usborne books and they're great! Sometimes hard to come by too. TIA!

those home parties can be great ways to earn extra cash and get free products. I haven't done a home business or even hosted a home party but have been to several. Usborne, Pampered chef, Weekenders, there's a lot of others out there.
Glad it is working out for you.

Is Weekenders still out there? Do tell.

Nope... Weekenders isnt in business anymore. It actually was really sad to see so many women left with nothing so suddenly. The bad thing about Weekenders was that their consultants had to purchase their inventory, and each season's samples which cost a LOT of money... so when the company suddenly closed with virtually no notice, there were lots of people out a TON of money and product they could only liquidate.

Home businesses are great, but some can be a risk financially. Often times the investment for a kit is substantial, the monthly quotas can be difficult without buying your own product to stay active, and often are so expensive for your customers, that they are intimidated to purchase. That's why I really enjoyed discovering Usborne cause we didnt have to buy inventory, I made my entire investment back within 15 minutes of my first party!

I say, find a company that you can believe in if you decide to go into a home business. It can be a great way to make extra money! Have Fun!!!

the problems with these business is its mainly freinds and family attending, feeling guilted into buying, then you pressure them into hosting a party for there freinds, and you get a commision from those sales... it ends up being a big circle, with the next freind hosting a party gulting you into buying, then freind 3 host a candle party, freind for avon, 5 is pampered chef, and it just goes on and on...

?? WOW That would suck if I found myself in a situation like that! Luckily that hadnt been the case at all. (My personal experience, not sure about others) My girlfriends did hold a party in my first month, so I could practice (4 different friends), but after that I have yet to have to "guilt my friends and family into buying".. in fact my extended family has recieved a few books from me as gifts, but never had to buy them! (HAHA... bonus for getting so many free books I guess!) I am able to keep a full calendar (Not to full.. I dont want to take away from my WDW & famiy time, but enough to make well over $1000 a month) by working with the schools, playgroups and parent groups in the area!

So for me... it's great, but that's why I do agree it's really important to make sure you understand how your product will be recieved by the general public and what the REAL opportunities are. A lot of time home businesses are not easy, and that nasty circle surely exists (That's why I never considered one until uncovering Usborne)

I used to sell Party Lite Candles and I did maybe 8 shows and it paid for my first Disney trip...12 years ago.

I wouldn't work for me now, but back then it was great. I maybe put in 40 hours total and it paid for my whole vacation.

I would agree about the guilting friends, once I ran out of peple to hold parties, I stopped selling it.
