What a beautiful night for a shuttle launch!

Would love to see it when we're out there sometime. We frequently get the welcome home sonic boom when it returns home and lands out here because of weather issues in FL. THAT'S a wake-up call!

Wow. All we get around here are the downtown hospital's "life flight" helicopters flying over our place. It's just not quite as exciting. :sad2:

It was one of the few "dusk" launches.

Just dark enough to see the flame, but the sun's rays caught the exhaust trail, it was beautiful! We could even see the booster rockets fall off!

It really was spectacular!

We keep meaning to drive out to Titusville or Cocoa to watch a launch before they retire the shuttles next year.

Sounds like I'm going to have to start making a plan for that . . .

I bet it's awsome to see in person. :thumbsup2

You should throw a Rocket Launch Party.
With these...
The liquid viagra cocktail
6 shot(s) Vodka
6 shot(s) Blue Curacao
2 can(s) Red Bull Energy Drink

How stupid are we? (DO NOT ANSWER THAT!!!). We totally forgot. :(

Wicked awesome photo!

I was at Huntsville, AL's NASA Space Center when they were still testing and training for the first shuttle mission. There was a banner up that said "Space Fever 1978, Catch It." Which is kind of funny because in true government style, the first shuttle didn't go up until 1981, which was 3 years behind schedule. :rolleyes1

I was a space geek, well, to an extent, I still am. My love for the shuttle has never died, but with the loses of the Challenger, which still leaves a lump in my throat :sad1:, and the Columbia, which still makes me angry because my question is why oh why didn't they just park it at the space station and wait for another shuttle to get those people home safely , my love for the program has had it's ups and downs. I hate to see this era of space exploration come to an end. But, I can't wait to see what's next. :woohoo:

I stood out in front of my apartment building last night and watched it. There were a bunch of people from the Gator's Dockside standing out there with their drinks in their hands-we were all cheering!! :cheer2:

I saw one launch from over on the Cape and I really want to do it again. It's an amazing experience.

I decided to have a couple long beaches at the california grill before the launch, then went outside to see the launch from the 15th floor of the contemporary! It was indeed beautiful. The pictures I see make it look darker than I recall it being. maybe it was darker on the coast:confused3

Either way the flames were awesome and I could see the rocket boosters fall off as well. I can't wait for the sonic boom when they come back! here's hoping for good weather!

Thanks for the cool pic OM!

I was wondering how everything went with the launch....

Everyone at work was talking about the launch back in Jan. '86....oh how I will never forget that awful day...I was in the 8th grade in science class watching it on TV when it all happened and I remember our teacher turning off the TV when it all happened. So tragic.

Corey was in 6th grade and her school along the coast in FL had let them step outside to watch it. So, she got a close up view. :sad2:

In my case, I was a senior in high school. I was sitting in English class and Kim came back to our room after running the tardy list to the front office for Ms. K. She said that Ms. Lord, the librarian had run into the front office to say that something was wrong with the shuttle. Since Ms. K and Ms. Lord were tight, we went to the library because they had just gotten this new thing called Satellite tv and we were able to see the news there. And boy did we see the news, over and over and over again. :sad1: I still get a lump in my throat and can't look at the video once I hear "Go at trottle up" because it was immediately after that the space shuttle, Challenger, blew apart and we lost 7 American astronauts. :sad1:

Lindy, have you been out to Kennedy Space Center?

The memorial to astronauts lost in the line of duty chokes me up! But it's very moving, and peaceful. It may be my favorite part of a visit to KSC.

Sadly no, I haven't gone out there. We were going to do it during one of our vacations, but Corey's family kind of horned in on the day, so that got lost. One day, I would really like to go see it. I would imagine that I will need kleenex.....the big box.
