GREAT service from lifeguard at the Grand Floridian pool today

He saved a boys life! His response was quick, executed perfectly, pulled the lifeless ~7 yo from the depth of the pool, had his mouth guard out of the pouch in mere seconds and resuscitated the child. Other staff fell right into place with perfection as well....full support, impeccable performance.

I am deeply moved and very impressed with what we witnessed today. Our hearts and prayers go out to the young man and his family tonight. He was breathing on his own, on the deck, still on the board. I'm sure he went to the hospital following, but we stayed at a distance so as to not interfere.

And that is why they don't want guests using pools without a lifeguard present. I'm sure the child's parents were thankful for the trained lifeguard being present and responding quickly.

Yes, that's automatic in a near drowning unless the parents refuse.

Thank you! In a situation like that, everyone is either part of the solution or part of the problem. Some of the best people in any life-threatening situation are those with sense enough to stay out of the way.

The Disney lifeguards are both well-trained (to the level they need) and very attentive and conscientious. I'm not surprised with the professional response.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with the child.

Seriously, being at Disney is wonderful, but nothing will top witnessing this little boys life being saved. Last night, a female guard ushered momma duck and her 5 ducklings back to the lake, out from the pool. I think we'll just go to the pool every night, now. Humanity at its BEST!

Thanks for this post. It's great to hear how CMs are there looking out for people and animals. When we were at Kidani in December we witnessed the quick response of a lifeguard coming to the rescue of a child. It was a chilly evening and the lifeguard even had on a jacket, but in an instant he was in the pool, scooped up the struggling child, and had him out of the pool. Fortunately, the child was fine and required no medical treatment. Then at BLT in July a little boy jumped into the water next to my daughter. She turned his way and he didn't pop up all the way out of the water and he couldn't touch. She reached over, grabbed his arm so he could get his head above water, and set him on the steps. This too happened in an instant. His mom, who was close by but dealing with a sibling, didn't even know it happened.

The Disney life guards are great. When we were at BC in March we witnessed 3 rescues during our pool day. None as serious as that, but it was still scary.

Hope the boy is okay. God bless those wonderful folks like life guards, firefighters, and EMTs (just to name a few) who make it their mission to make sure we are safe and they are well trained for such emergencies.

I am one of those people who stay right out of the way. Some view my behavior as callous, but I have no training and my reflexes are not quick. It is better than I stay back.

This is what any lifeguard anywhere would do - it's their job...routine stuff. What puzzles me is what were the 7-yr old boy's parents doing while he was potentially drowning?? That's very troubling.
