Dates: Friday, 1/10 thru Monday 1/13
Cast:
Me - Running first WDW Marathon; DD, DS, DH at home
Mom - First WDW visit in 30 years and Marathon volunteer
Transport: Rented a compact at the airport for a cheap rate (3 days $100).

1/10: Checked in amidst many other runners checking in. Line moved well, pleasant CM. My faxed room request didn't help for Parterre Place. Got AB Bldg 39 (way, way back) - nice room, clean, no mildew, carpet spots, etc. Headed over to CBR for race packet pickup and saw the rehab - all sparkling and nice but I didn't checkout the rooms or the marketplace.

Headed to Downtown Disney for dinner at Fulton's. We ate in the bar and had soup and apps - very tasty and nice atmosphere. Check out the ceilings in the bar area - gorgeous. Shopped around and headed back to POR via water shuttle.

1/11: Headed over the WL to take a look around - was most impressive! Walked through the lobby, out to the pool and geyser area and out to the boat launch. Just beautiful. Then we hopped back in the car and drove over to AK for breakfast. AK was as so many people have posted - gorgeous! Went to the food court adjacent to the pool and had the brioche french toast - yum! Then off to MGM for the rest of the day. Took in RockNRoller Coaster, Star Tours, Muppets and lunch at the Brown Derby - yummy Cobb Salad. Enjoyed the parade then back to POR for rest before the race.

1/12: Always, always, always call security before taking matters into your own hands.

Awoken by my next door neighbor at 12am who was speaking loudly (shouting). The heated conversation moved out of the room and onto the walkway outside our doors. While I was not happy about being awake, I didn't call about the noise since I just wanted to get some sleep due to the early wakeup time for the marathon (3am). Awoken *again* at 12:35am by my neighbor again on the phone outside the door. I got up and opened my door and asked her to please stop or take it into her room since I needed to sleep for another couple of hours, please. She said "good for you" and turned back to her cell phone. I went over and tried to close the phone (bad idea, I know), things got slightly physical (she initiated). Her parents finally came out of the room to see what was going on. Things cooled down and I went back to bed to get some sleep.

My wake up call was a knock on the door at 3am with Orlando police officer and Disney Security manager to follow up on the complaint lodged by the person next door. Turns out the person in question was a cheerleader there for a competition and she was having a fight with her boyfriend. Sigh.

The marathon was a blast despite the early start (6am) and the estimated 22,000 runners/walkers. Finished up, drove back from Epcot to POR and took a nap. Ate a little dinner at the River Roost - very tasty Garlic Cheese Bites and chicken wings and lots of water. Was hoping to see Bob Jackson again playing piano, but he's there Weds-Sat, only. Make plans to go see him!

1/13-Breakfast in the food court - deelish since I was still hungry after the big run. My room was pre-paid and I declined using a credit card (for incidentals, the CM said) at check-in, I didn't realize that I'd need to check out too. Apparently, the credit card at check-in for incidentals is also for speedy check-out, too. Live and learn. Checkout line was long but moved well.

It was a great visit.
