I read this little bit of info:
"At MGM on the Great Movie Ride there are two different shows. It depends on what cart you get into which show you will see. There is a cowboy/western show and a mob /gangster shootout"

In all my times I have only seen the mob one, can anyone verify this for me?

TIA
Sandy

Out of all the times I've been on the ride, I've only gotten thijacked in the Western shoot-out once. I almost always get the gangster one. But there is another option. I believe what scene you get depends in if you go to the left or on the roght in the line. I think those who go to the left get the gangsters and those who go on the right get the cowboys or something like that.

Suddenly this rings a bell... I think. I know that on my last trip I had the mob thing, but maybe on an earlier trip I was in the Western. I can't tell if I'm imagining this or not (I have a tendency to do that). I will have to see if I can stay to the right on my next trip... that's in 298 days *sigh*.

On our first trip to WDW, we rode The Great Movie Ride and had the "mob" version. On our second trip, we happened to have the "cowboy" version. I didn't think either version was too entertaining. This just isn't one of my favorite attractions.

Yes Sandy that is correct!
On our trip this past Oct there was a malfunction and as we went by we saw inside the cowboy set...I've mostly encountered the mobsters, only had the cowboys once...but yes they both do exist!

We've had both as well. But mostly we always got the gangsters. The last time I rode the ride in 2003 I got the Cowboys, I just thought they had changed up the ride. I didn't relize that they had two options.

Here'a a post on this subject I copied 2 or 3 years ago. I never tried it, take it for what it's worth.

I was reading Blondies's trip report, and she didn't know how she ended up on either the Cowboy or gangaster side, so here is the scoop ! When you enter the room that is screening the movies, you can either walk straight ahead, or take a 90 degree turn to the right. The gangster is straight ahead...the cowboy the hard right. It really doesen't matter if you remember which is which as long as you remember to try both sides !

I guess I don't understand what you are saying. The cars run on a track, basically, one behind the other. The western scene and the mobster scene are just two of many that you pass by in the process. Everyone sees both of them.

If you are refering to when the, so called, "live action" begins, I can't honestly say I ever noticed but I always thought it was during the mobster scene. Now maybe since the cars follow each other when it the first one stops in front of the Mob (whatever) the second is in front of the western, so the live action starts there. Actually, that makes sense.

In the words of the great Gilda....Never mind!!!

Whoa!

There are not two lines. (Unless maybe at the really busy times of year. ie Christmas, Easter, etc.) There is a line for people in wheelchairs and scooters though. That line is different and begins when you first enter the theater (screening room) part.

If you ride in the first set of cars (up near the marquee) you will enter the western scene and see the bank robbed.

If you sit in the second set of cars (one of the last to load) you will see the gangster shootout.

Both of those live action sequences happen at the same time.

There are 2 tourguides one for each set of cars. Each car is divided into two segments.

If you want to see the western scene you can always ask the loader if you can wait for the next ride. Or vice versa.

I've seen the Cowboy show, but I must say the mob show is my favorite.

If you come upon a point in the line where you can either go to the right or to the left, going right will put you in the cowboy vehicle. Going left gives you gangster. Sometimes they direct people one way or another so you don't get a choice.

If you're not sure which way you went in the line, the front vehicle is cowboy and the back one is gangster.

I rode GMR twice in September and once in October. On all three visits they only had the second car running so we always got the mobster scene. So you don't always have a choice. But if both cars are running, the front car gets the live action in the western scene and the second car gets the live action in the mob scene. Both cars obviously have to go through both sets, it's just a difference of where you get stopped and hijacked at.

Wow, this thread is interesting. I always saw the mobster scene, until my last trip. I saw the western scene, and assumed that it was new since the ride was in rehab. Now I know the real scoop.

Tell the CM which scene you want to see and they'll do their best to get you into the correct vehicle.
