How scary is the "Alien" part of this ride? I have a 10 year that gets creeped out easily. TIA

The Alien portion of the Great Movie Ride consists of slowly riding through a semi-dark tunnel while the Alien from the movie peeks out from the ceiling. IIRC, he sort of lunges out a bit from the ceiling, but only by a few inches, and you're way below him. There's nothing really scary about it except for the animatronic alien in the ceiling. I think your child would be fine. The Great Movie Ride is one of my favorites, and I think they would love it too. Hope that helped!

Its PLENTY "creepy".

When in doubt, ride it without the child first.

You can always tell your child to "keep your eyes closed" during this section, AND the snakes and glowing-eyed skeletons in the Indiana Jones sections.

thanks...i think I'll let her read your posts and she can tell me how she wants to do it...skip it, me ride first or try it

To me, there was nothing to the Alien part. I'd even braced myself for something to jump out, or chase the "car". But nothing happened.

I'd just turned 22 when I rode it last year, and I kept my eyes closed and plugged my ears. Can you tell I don't like being startled? :lmao: This year, I just closed my eyes. I didn't have a problem either time. With your eyes closed and ears plugged, you really have no clue what's going on. At my age, I would feel like a chicken if it weren't for the fact that a middle-aged lady behind me screamed in sheer terror when he became visibile. :rotfl:

Is it still actually there? I did the ride 15 years ago and it scared the **** out of me, really lunged from the ceiling. I did the ride twice last year and braced myself for it, and it never appeared-not a sausage! :confused3 (Admittedly one of the times the smoke machine got alittle wild, and alien could have climbed in next to me and I wouldn't have seen him....) I never heard any screams from anyone else either so I'm wondering if they removed him altogether.

If you go to ***********.net you can watch a free video that shows the whole ride. The quality is not the best but it will give you a good idea of what it is about. :thumbsup2

The alien pops out from the ceiling and from the side at one point, never near enough to touch anyone, but the mist sprays and some water drips from it if you are below or across from it when it happens. Depending upon where you are in the ride vehicle you may not even experience it at all.

I took my 4 year old niece on it, and she had no problems at all.

I would definately take her on because it would be a shame for her to miss the ride for that part. Once you get in the Alien part, just have her close her eyes and hold her ears. It's really not that long and she'll adore every other part.
