You peg me as some movie hater, which I am not. I love Disney movies, old and new. I said that I thought the concept of the GMR was fantastic, but I strongly feel that if this attraction is going to remain, it needs an update to include movies more popular with today's and tomorrow's audiences.
I didn't peg you as some movie hater there's no need to put words in my mouth.

You said: "Now, judge me if you will, but I didn't see it as being an important part of culture. I don't see movies in general as an important part of culture."

And I responded with "seeing as how you don't think movies are important to culture (nothing wrong with that it's your opinion) but that may skew your viewpoint on a ride designed to showcase movies."

What part of my statement (which used your words) said you are a movie hater??

The other part of your response I did already agree with.

I'm not getting baited into an argument. For the most part, we agree.
Yeah I wasn't trying to get in an argument. You kinda made it an argument when you responded with a "you peg me as some sort of movie hater"

Anyways agree to disagree and move on.

Good. Do that.

I think sometimes people misinterpret tone in the written word and find offense where none was intended.

I thought we were done? You said "Good" then decided to edit to add more.

Just be done and move on please. I'm moving on at this point too.

Is this still a rumor at this point? How strong of a rumor? Sorry, read the first page but don't want to read 17 more.

I'll be sad to see it go if true. I do want new rides, just want to keep the old stuff too :) Doesn't DHS have plenty of space now for more rides?

When I first rode GMR I hadn't seen most of the movies represented. But then...shock...the ride made me interested in some of those great movies and now I've seen most of them. I don't think it necessarily needs movies from today to be relevant or a good ride. If they must they could switch out some of the scenes, maybe the Tarzan room for one. Disney has plenty of dark rides that represent their movies, like Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Pirates, Pooh etc.

I'm so sick of this ride sponsorship nonsense. I know it is more complex, but seriously Disney you are making record profits, put up the money for your own rides. Don't take away stuff just because you can't find some other schmuck to pay for it for you.

I'm fine with this changing to a ride dedicated to Mickey Mouse but would it get lost within the theming of the rest of the park?

Maybe make it a Pixar ride with a mixture of different movies?

Pretty strong of a rumor.

And at what point in time do we start worrying about Spaceship Earth being gone? Seems like its theme would eventually not fit into the "new" Epcot.

I would hope "never" would be the answer to this question.

I have no idea if I am in the minority or the majority but I think Disney needs to keep one thing in mind with all changes. To me at least Disney is a destination above the other parks in central FL not because of the "rides" but because of the "connection" people feel to their brand. I think people feel a connection to times past to their childhood or to their children's childhood. Be that from a movie or a ride. I am not saying Disney should just let their attractions get stale and decay, upgrades updates and additions are good but what I am saying is that they best not lose sight of what makes them "different" from say Universal. Play to their own strengths do not try to emulate others.

I have read on here that HS when it was originally planned was sort of as a response to Universal and that it ended up changing soon as it was not super successful. Again stick to your strengths Disney. Universal is great as a place to go if you want to be thrilled and entertained but at least for me there is not that "connection". Disney as i said before at least for me connects to something more and they need to be careful that they do not sacrifice that connection part while trying to become more thrilling or entertaining.

On the original subject of TGMR i think if done right a Mickey ride could fit what i am saying here. But it needs to be done in the right way and not just some technically advance thrill that does not truly connect the rider to Mickey's story and maybe even go behind that to incorporate some of what went into Walt coming up with him.

I also agree with those that say that all the parks should have an over arching theme to them. If i had my way I would center HS around Disney,(Pixar, Lucas etc.) movies and all the Disney characters. I would have MK sort of the way it is as the "fantasy" type of park. The other two parks I would have a learning centered approach to. EPCOT I would go back to its roots and have it be a true epicenter of learning about the world around us from different cultures in world showcase to science and technology in future world. AK i would focus on the aspect of all the diversity of life on this planet (kind of already fits that).

Sorry for the long post, just had a few minutes to spare and thought I would spill my thoughts all over the page. lol.

Ok, I now respectfully step down from my soap box. :mic:

I was born well after every movie is this ride, but I still love it. Some of them even became my favorites. Heck, I was born well after many of the "Classic" Disney movies and those are my favorites that I've seen too many times to count. There are only certain attractions that give me that warm, fuzzy feeling that brings me back to a time and place I could only ever imagine... unfortunately those attractions/things are disappearing. :sad1:

I wish they would pull a few movies and insert newer classics, also some of the animated Disney movies and add those to the ride. Give it new life and make it a ride that has something for everyone. So as you go through the ride the youngest member to the oldest member of the family can all experience a moment that brings them back and celebrates a movie they grew up with or just really grew to love.

I have to admit I still love the Wizard of OZ section of GMR. I just don't think the younger audiences have the same appreciation for it that their adult counterparts do. So the demoing is necessary.

Yeah, I love the Wizard of OZ, and I was really shocked when my kids were not feeling the love. I mean that film was old when I saw it and it was still magical, but things have just changed SO much in movies and the stuff they can watch now....

Yeah I know, it's kinda sad. But I guess you gotta let them watch their weird cartoons or they'll freak out and burn down the house. I thank God Teletubbies went away though, I felt like I was on something while watching that. I'd have dreams later on that night they wanted to play with me. I'd say "alright". Then I'd be strapped to a gurney and they wanted to do surgery on me. NO NOOOOOOO...OOO...OO.

Unplug dude, unplug.

My son still hasn't seen Wizard of Oz because when I was a kid, my mother took me to see "Return to Oz" at Radio City Music Hall and when that woman removed her head and switched it out for another one, I lost my mind. I was only 6, mind you, and that was a pretty scary thing for me and therefore, anything "Oz" has been banned in our house.

Someone else that was freaked out by Return to Oz! A family member took my two cousins and I to see that movie, I think we were 5 and 6. Way too young for that movie. I rarely find anyone that's heard of the movie let alone seen it. I made my mom watch it a few years ago and was just as disturbed by the head changing as an adult.
