Great kids craft idea in Family Fun Magazine!

First, thank you to the OP who posted about the $1 subscription for this magazine!!

I got my first issue the other day and DD-9 already made this awesome craft - it's a Hula Hoop rug, so cute!! You need a 33 inch hoop and about 12 kids large t-shirts. Well, it suggests "large size" but she used her old dresses that don't fit and a few of the shirts were size 6x. She didn't get the weaving centered good enough so her rug is actually more of a hot pad size and she'll try another one. She is planning on having everyone at her 10th birthday party make one. I think we will buy the hula hoops for everyone but ask them to bring their t-shirts. I don't know how to post a photo of this craft but maybe you could look online for it or stop at the library?

That's cool! I saw that in the the magazine and I wondered how it would work. I'm going to have to see if we have enough old tee shirts sitting around to try it. It looked fun!

I'm so glad you posted this. I was thinking of doing it with my 4-H art and crafts group but I wasn't sure if asking everyone to bring in 12 old t-shirts was too much. We have way too many kids for me to provide them all.

Question, how was the part when you had to create the spokes on the hula hoop. Did they stay put?

Well, DD-9 did the whole craft by herself and I saw the spokes were staying in place. The only complaint she had was the center where you weave was not "in the center of the hoop" so she needs to try and work that out next time.

Hi, I read your post as I was looking for the instructions for the hula hoop rugs and was wondering if you could send me the instructions, as I lost the magazine and want to make one with my granddaughter. Thanks Mary Anne
