Our non-trip Hurricane Ian report:
Had three nights booked at VGF, first stay at this resort, booked for Wednesday - Saturday.
On Sunday morning, woke up, saw the reports of Hurricane Ian and decided to cancel our trip, due to my job and the coming storm.
Called MS @9 and explained my job; Disaster Recovery Analyst for Orange County, I would be at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the duration of the coming hurricane event.
MS placed me on-hold and checked my points used to book the VGF trip, we had borrowed a few points, it is past our banking deadline, and they made extra accommodations for us:
Cancelled the reservation - points did not go into holding.
Put borrowed points back into next UY.
Allowed me to bank the points that were current UY being used for this cancelled trip.
Great job MS!
I went into work at the EOC on Tuesday morning and did not leave the building until Friday night.

That's awesome that DVC was able to work with you and be accommodating! I've found DVC (and Disney in general) to be pretty flexible to people when genuine issues come up.

I think there's a lot of negativity towards Disney recently. I think DVC has gotten some of that as well....especially during the pandemic w/ the loooooonnnnggg hold times. But at the end of the day, more times than not, Disney/DVC makes things right. I know there are outliers where Disney doesn't make things right. But i feel for every one time that happens there are 10 cases of people who expect too much. Look today at the DL board today. A woman comes in and complains about an "upsetting experience" where the baby care center wouldn't reheat homemade grilled chicken for her 13 month and 3yr old. I mean, if something like that is part of your Disney expectations....Disney has no chance.

Yes Disney/DVC/DCL will do right by you. Another time previously:
DCL
I got one for DD for a cruise booked on points, when her BiL was KIA in Iraq during the first week of the war. We were booked on a DCL, the funeral was schedule during the cruise, so I called MS, and they refunded her points after I provided proof.
