My hubby is looking to play some new courses on our next trip and would like to try some outside of WDW. Which would you recommend?>

Here is an article that might help.

Public Golf in Orlando

You might also just try a Google search for Orlando public golf. Most of the well known courses require you either to be a member or to stay at their lodging in order to play.

The Celebration golf course is very nice and the restaurant there s great. It is a public course. Here is a link to their site - http://www.celebrationgolf.com/welcome.htm. Falcon's Fire is cupposed to be nice too, but we have not played there. My husband still loves the Disney courses though, and with the DVC golf membership the prices can't be beat.

My DH, brother and father golfed Celebration and Falcon's fire last March and they tell me as I write this that they recommend both.

Cheers! :thumbsup2

Sorry, those questions I cannot help you with. I do know my husband still talks about those courses, especially Celebration.

DH and I played at the course at the Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes in July. It was fabulous!! (but pricey, we stayed one night at the Ritz on a great package rate). DH is still raving. I may not be able to get him back to WDW again, unless I promise a round of golf at Grande Lakes!

We really enjoyed the two courses at Wild Woods. It's northeast of Orlando, maybe an hour-and-a-half or so. But definitely worth the drive. No housing developments, just great golf courses. We have only played the Tom Fazio course there.

Champions Gate is supposed to be great, but difficult. Also, we played one of the Reunion courses, but I think you have to be a guest there.

DH absolutely loved Bay Hill (it's owned by Arnold Palmer), but I'm pretty sure you have to stay there in order to play there. He was fortunate enough to be staying there for a conference.

I believe you mean World Woods. They have two Tom Fazio courses there (Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks). Their practice facilities are among the best in the country, rivaling the TPC at Sawgrass. World Woods is outside of Brooksville, Florida (actually it is closer to Homosassa Springs, I think) and is about 90 minutes to 2 hours away from Disney but well worth the trip. You can play both courses in the same day in high season for about $150 as I recall. These are a couple of the very best public access courses in the nation (Pine Barrens has been consistently rated in the top 10 Courses You Can Play by major golf publications, and Rolling Oaks is also a great course).

Yes, thanks for the correction. We played Pine Barrens. I think both are modeled after two famous courses and if I remember correctly, one is modeled after Augusta National, but I can't remember the other.

You are correct. The style of Rolling Oaks is that of Augusta (white sand, rolling terrain, azalea bushes) and the style of Pine Barrens is to mimic Pine Valley (lots of waste areas and scrub).

I've played Falcon's Fire - it's fabulous! It's as nice or nicer than any of the Disney courses.

If you have the contacts I would suggest trying to get on at Bay Hill. You may need to have a golf pro from another course call Bay Hill to make the tee time for you, but it would be so worth it!
