There's a great article in GQ about a former Iraqi (gay) who was hired by Saddam's regime to spy on diplomats and other secretive operatives. I haven't finished reading it since my train had pulled into my town last night before I got through it, but what I've read so far (a few pages) has been very interesting. He met a healthcare executive from Houston in Jordan and the two of them were in hiding until about 2002 when they were stalked and harrassed. Definitely worth a read.

Sorry..that was probably a horrible summary. ;)

It was a great article. There have also been several documentaries on gays in developing countries - shocking. Our fight for DP benefits pales when you consider that in half the world they are likely to be killed just for having someone THINK they are gay.

However, I wasn't too impressed with the last page of that same issue. I realize it was tongue in cheek, but I'm not sure the author really was adept at reasonable sarcarsm. Several comments were just offensive and because the writing was less than stellar, I had to bite my tongue to finish it.

:)
