Grandparents purchasing Florida annual passes for grandkids

Yes, FL resident grandparents can purchase annual passes for grandkids, but they will need to be present when the passes are activated in order to prove residency.

Wow! How did I not know this? Thanks for sharing!

When activating a FL resident ticket for a child, someone who can provide valid proof of FL residency has to be present. It doesn't have to be the actual grandparents or the person who purchased the ticket. But FL resident tickets require proof of residency. Obviously kids don't have that themselves, so they have to have an adult with them who can provide proof of residency.

I'm trying to gain a better understanding of what it means to activate the AP as a FL resident, hopefully someone can help.

This would be our scenario tell me if it can work like this. My father (FL resident) goes to Disney Springs Guest Services window in April 2022 and buy 4 APs for his grandkids as gifts. He shows his credentials that day with Guest Services. He gives me the AP information for my kids (to put on my MDE) but I do not activate/swipe them for the first time until we go to the parks the first time in June 2022.

My father would not be with us in June 2022 he just wants to buy them these as gifts.

Which bring me to my two questions:
If he presents his information in April, would he still need to be there in June?
If he presents his information in April, can I wait until June to officially activate them to start expiring?

Proof of residency is needed at the time of activation. He'll need to be with them whenever you choose to activate them.

I apologize but I do not understand. It is the word "activation" that is unclear in everything I read. Can he activate them at Disney Springs when he buys them and shows his information?

Does "activation" mean the expiration starts rolling, so I can not wait until June to first use?

You can wait to start the expiration rolling until June but then the Florida resident must be present at that time to activate the passes at Guest Services. Just to be clear, this would only work for grandchildren that under the age of 18.

Thank you and I know the grandchildren part. I just need the AP to run summer to summer and my father lives in FL part of the year and is gone by end of April so I was trying to figure out my options. It sound like I may be in trouble for my plans.

I do believe child and Resident must be together for the activation

Activation means exactly what it sounds like - you're making the passes "active" which means they are usable and your clock starts rolling. If he will not be with you in June - you will not be able to activate them in June. Disney is pretty flexible to allow minors to get FL resident tickets but they're likely trying to avoid exactly what you're trying to do - buying tickets for minors who are not really Florida residents and who aren't planning on using them with a Florida resident.
