Would like to hear from grandparents who have gone to WDW with children & grandchildren -- how did it go?

My dh and I went to Disney in July of 2004 with our dd, her husband and our two granddaughters. We had a wonderful time even though my dd said I was a comando vacationer and asked for some leisure time (lol). We are going in August with just our granddaughters. We have taken the oldest several times but this will be the first time with both. I'm sure you'll have a great time if you all go together.

Im not a grandparent, but we have gone on family trips with my parents. A couple times we have gone with my family, my sisters family and my parents. Those trips were great, but my parents werent with us at all times. For example EE does not work for my Father who is a night owl and sleeps in. Hes also slower paced than the rest of us(not old...just his normal pace, LOL), so my parents would meet us at the parks or take off for a while if they wanted a break.

However there have been a few times when my Mother has left my "Disneyed Out" Father at home and come along with us. Shes right there for EE with us and running commando around the parks. Our last trip was over our anniversary and she even took the kids for the night and let us go out for a nice dinner and to have fun.

Im working desperately to try to get the whole family to go back again, so obviously it has worked well for us...at least IMO. ;) :goodvibes

My dad took my then 2 yr old son and I last year, then my husband and brother joined in back in January. My mom died years ago so hes content to go off and do his own thing, but he did stick around with us for most of the trip. He didnt want to miss seeing my sons reactions to everything. When he wanted, he headed over to Epcot to do his thing-Test Track which he loves, and the drums in Japan. We met up later on after I shopped and my son napped for the evening shows. It worked out nicely.

I started saving money for a Disney trip when my first grandson was born. Another came along 3 years later, so I upped the savings account and we were able to go for the first time when they were 5 and 3. Even at that young age, we had a fabulous time. I can't even tell you how much fun we had. When we were leaving, they asked when we would be back again. I said I would start saving money again and we would be back in about 5 years; then gave myself a slap in the face and thought "what am I thinking? life's too short". I immediately came back and purchased DVC and we have been going every 2 years on spring break.

My daughter's not much of a thrill rider, so I'm the designated thrill ride companion now that they are older. My fondest memory is the day Wade (the older) and I managed to sneak out of the house without mom & Tyler (who was not feeling well); got to MK first thing, and consecutively rode BTMRR and SM not once but 4 times in a row. Since that time, I have learned to enjoy a more grown-up version of Disney with my husband and friends. But my greatest joy is still taking those boys. My only fear is that they will get to be teenagers and think they are too "cool" for Disney.

My parents took my 4-1/2 year old daughter for a pre-kindergarten trip, just the three of them. They had a ball!! All of them. She got to be an "only", her baby brother got the same "only" treatment at home. They were able to take it easy in a way that can only happen with grandparents. I would be tield to a work vacation schedule, try to see and do everything. Now, they plan to do the same for my son when he is of a similar age. They don't think they could do the two together without me to mediate, but with just one they had a great time!
