Grandpa w/ Double knee replacement & recent back surgery- need help and dont know where to look?

We are planning a trip for Feb 2016. My dad has had both knees replaced about 5 years ago and had back surgery about 6 months ago. He is back at work full time, physical labor, so he is fully cleared. He does still have pain here and there when he is on his feet for an (unusual) extended period of time or if he does things that or out of the ordinary. I know that Disney World will probably be hard on him come the 3rd or 4th day. Will we be able to just rent a ECV? or will we need medical paperwork? How does this work? Should we rent one from a rental place "just in case?"

You won't need any medical paperwork to rent an ECV. If you rent from off-site it's cheaper than renting in the parks.

It is also a lot of walking around hotels and to and from buses and such. And there is no guarantee there will be ECVs available when you get to the parks. Off site ones are also more maneuverable. I strongly suggest renting from off site.

Definitely rent off site. It's cheaper, he will have access to it at resort and the off site rentals are usually not as difficult to maneuver as the in park rentals. Also, the in park rentals go pretty quickly, so he may find himself ECV-less if you don't get there early.
