Last August when we (my DD, GS 8 and GD 6) returned from a weeks vacation at Disney World, my GD started whining about how Pepaw hadn't gone to Disney with us and how she wanted him to go.

Now Pepaw went to Disney in 1992 for my extended family's Christmas trip. He swore it was the best vacation he'd ever had, but I've never been able to convince him to go back. He's not a traveler and hates making plans, BUT GD has him wrapped around her little finger.

I'm listening to GD whine for several weeks, then suddenly remember that the kids have a 4 day weekend in January due to a couple of teacher workdays ... so I hop online to see what a 4 day/3 night vacation will cost me.

Mmmmm ... not to bad, now I just have to convince Pepaw to go to Disney with us ... did I mention he hates to fly???

Well one evening after some Disney whining from GD (bless her little heart) I casually bring up the subject ... Pepaw doesn't immediately reject the idea ... after all he knows GD would go crazy if he'd go to WDW ... I tell him to think about it.

A week later I bring the subject back up ... no he wouldn't mind going, in fact he's got some *use or lose* vacation days ... but flying is so dangerous ... nah driving in the metro DC area that's dangerous ... to Pepaw's regret driving to FL isn't practical ... not enough time and the GK are AWFUL in the car ... someone would definitely die if we drove ... but flying is so dangerous. After much moaning about the dangers of flying he reluntantly agrees to go ... YAY!!! And I quickly book our vacation package so he can't back out.

Then Disney comes up with the Disney/Visa offer .... oooo, if we stay an extra day we'll save $346 and get 100 Disney Dollars. Poor Pepaw he agrees to an extra day in Disney ... if we don't die flying to FL that is ... <Pepaw really, really needs to get over this>.

For the fun of it we decide to try and keep the trip a surprise ... we've come close to spilling the beans a couple of times, but as of this moment they have NO CLUE we're heading to Disney this weekend.

GS has already asked me what we're doing this weekend ... a normal question for him, but he's puzzled by my odd answer that I have something special planned but it's a secret.

I am really looking forward to this trip. It should be extra-special, not only is Pepaw coming, but I managed to get ps ressies for CRT which my GD has been wanting to do for 2 years. Instead of staying in a cabin in FW I decided to save $500 and stay at the All Star Movies and I think the kids are going to enjoy the change in resorts.

Now I just need to get packed, LOL!!!

Cast of Characters:

Me (50) Memaw to Christian, Wm and Cissy

Pepaw (49) step-grandfather to above GK ("I don't remember agreeing to grandkids." "Sorry darling, I was a package deal, remember?")

Wm (8) - *live-in* grandson

Cissy (7) - *live-in* grandaughter who has Pepaw wrapped around her baby finger!

So cool ~ I bet you can't wait to see their faces when they realise they are going to visit the mouse. Can't wait to read your trip reports.

I can't wait to read your report when you come back!! You're so lucky to be able to take your grandkids. I'm dreaming of the day when DH and I have some grandchildren to spoil at WDW.

How lucky your grandkids are!! I can't wait to find out how you suprised them.

While many local kids may be sad because tomorrow would have certainly been a snow day your grandkids are having fun at WDW. Hopefully the weather improves and you have a safe trip home. Your husband may never fly again if you land in terrible weather.

oooooo....how fun! Can't wait to hear about your adventures!
