Grandfathered DVC member considering buying resale contract w/different UY-lose benefits?

We own 2 contracts at different resorts with an October UY. They appear under one member number as -1 and -2. Both were purchased resale but one dates back to 2008 so our member benefits are grandfathered. I've read that if I add a resale contract with a June UY it will appear under a separate member number. Does that mean I would not be eligible for member benefits (e.g. Moonlight Magic) if I'm staying using points under the June UY contract?

As long as you remain eligible by keeping those other contracts, and DVD doesn’t change things, yes, you would be able to attend those events when staying on resale points.

The discounts don’t matter because you will be able to show DVC Y. The only piece is that the resale points will not be good at RIV and future resorts. Owning other points doesn’t change that aspect.

Even if you buy resale points in your qualified membership, those resale points are still restricted points.

Hi! I actually had this question earlier today but apparently as long as you have enough direct/grandfathered points on one of your memberships to be considered DVC-Y, you are eligible for moonlight magic even if staying on resale points.

Thanks everyone! You're right, for most things the card alone is enough; it's mostly Moonlight Magic I'm concerned about. We went last May in HS and loved it and were successful yesterday so we'll be going again in September!

Data point from July 2022 Moonlight Magic at HS...we stayed at SSR on an RCI transfer reservation which we purchased from friend. My friend made the reservation through RCI and asked that it be put in my name. I was able to connect the reservation to MDE in my name. I am a DVC Y member, but I was very skeptical that I would be able to register for the MM event that coincided with our stay. As it turns out, I did get the email invitation for MM and was able to get tickets using my member number.
