I’m planning on booking a grand villa for the first time in Jan 2014 and was wondering from those who have done so just how hard it is to get one. I plan to book in the 11 month booking window, I’m wondering if I’m going to have to book it day by day to insure I get the week I want. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. :)

There are only seven of them, so you need to look at the dates you want to see if you need to walk the reservation at all. If you are looking at Jan 1 or marathon week or MLK holiday, I'm gonna bet you'll have to walk it.

But if you are planning for the marathon, they might not advertise the weekend until after your 11 month timeframe. I know I was trying to book a week for 2013 marathon and had I guessed wrong, we would have been staying before the marathon even started.

Thanks for the response. I have heard of walking the reservation before but I’m wondering how it would be any different to “walk” it as opposed to just reserving it a day at a time as soon as the first day is available at the 11 month window?

Do member services object to members walking the reservation? Do they have to send out a new confirmation every time the reservation is changed?

Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :)

We booked a BWV GV for next January (9-13) at the 11-month mark and had no trouble. We did not walk the reservation. I checked several times before the 7-month mark and there was still availability for all nights throughout that period. One night became sold out before the 7-month window opened but the others were still open.

There isn't a need to book a day at a time. You just book seven nights at once and you book starting 11 months from the start of your reservation.

Back in the old days when you booked based on the last day of your reservation, you might have wanted to book day by day to get all seven nights.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I was still thinking of the old way, I forgot that was changed. So to walk the reservation I would start a week out & include the first day of my desired stay as the last night of the original reservation; after that I would call day by day to drop the first day & add a day at the end until I have the desired dates? I tried explaining this to my husband and he said he’s sure glad I take care of this, too confusing for him!

I guess member services don’t mind members doing this? Do they have to send a new confirmation each time a change is made, seems they might not like it….

The confirmations are all going to be email now as far as I know. So no worries of waste from multiple conformations. They will come to your email with a link in the email to a web page with the details of your reservation. Just don't forget to delete the old emails when u get the new. I forgot once and clicked on a link that showed the old details, not the changes I had made and I about had heart failure (it was a SSR conformation & I had since gotten BWV for food and wine, u understand my distress!). Anyway, the link in each email will show what was reserved when that email was sent, it does not change with your changes ( or it did not in mine). So now I make sure go back to delete emails that have old info in them.
Good luck with your planning! I would love to get a BWV grand villa someday!
Oh and your description of walking looks right to me, but I have never done it!

Thanks SCDizneyDawn for your response. I have never stayed in a grand villa before so I’m very much looking forward to it. I’m planning a family Disney trip & will have to rent a 2 bedroom in addition to the grand villa with the grand villa being the main gathering place. I think that should work out perfect. I just hope I can get my desired dates; I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

During Feb, I kept track of BWV on a weekly basis to see what was available for each week in Jan 2013. If you reserved exactly 11 months out, you could always get a GV and in fact you could always get anything at BWV 11 months out making "walking" unnecessary. Thus far, that has been true for reserving 11 months out at BWV for Jan 2013 through the first week of June 2013, including the very high demand Easter weeks.
